Had a lockout with the Trex 450 SE V2 today.. I am running Scorpion -6 V2 w/10T @100% flat with the Align 35 ESC which is stupid but I am running a BEC so I thought I was safe. I can just auto if the ESC fried right? Wrong...

Was acting weird like low on power so I brought it in to listen. I pitch pumped up and down but it seemed ok. I banked left and was facing it toward the flight line and my friend was off about 50 feet sitting in some chairs. I was 20' up and meant to put it nose in toward him then rocket it off backwards into inverted to start playing again. All of a sudden I realized I had no control it was slowly drifting right toward him! I was at first in denial but then I realized it was really happening so I yelled loud twice LOCKOUT!! then it twitched and slammed into the ground. Even though I have my failsafe set correctly tested on the bench the throttle never turned off. I hit thold about 8' from the ground but the motor was screaming full bore as it slammed right side first into the ground. Broken Radix blades, canopy mount on the right ripped out of the frame, broken tail servo mount (tail servo ok!), shafts and I think the rotor core is twisted.

On the brighter side I got more done on the Trex 600 Nitro Super Pro. I guess I can have the money to get it down by early May. I have it on my webpage click the picture to get a bigger view. Dang thing is just so sexy!

Hey cloud kissers,
YEEHAW -I'm back in Nebraska for a week. Jay gets back form Colorado in the morning. He wrapped up the railroad track lookey see today and will land here at about 7 AM. Nice weather here startng today. Sunny and in the 60's & 70's. Been some craaazy weather lately. Had some real bad thunderboomers in Okie City for a couple of days. Seems like crazy weather is everywhere. Almost like the planets immune system is kicking in and trying to fight off the human virus and all the abuse we have dealt it.

I spent an hour or so writing a post Friday and something happened to the forum. I was almost done and everything just dumped. After that I couldn't get back on here until tonight. Just kept getting a blank page that wouldn't finish loading. Have any of you had trouble getting on the forum lately?

Checked with UPS tracking today and my heli has gone from Hong Kong to Incheon, Korea to Anchorage, Alaska to Louisville, KY to Commerce City, Colo. Always amazes me how UPS routes things all over the place. They have flown it right over Nebr. twice now and have to send it back thisaway again. The dang thing has flown thousands of miles and ain't even built yet. I hope it's been lookin' out the window and learnin' about flyin'. Oh well, I guess they have their system. They can't just kick it out the door as they go over. Anywho, it looks good for delivery tomorrow. I'm tickled I can be here for that. I get to rip it open myself and ohh and ahh over all the stuff. I was so excited when I talked to Jay on the phone today he threatened to put up the Christmas tree.

Helismith-So sorry about the crash. My brother did somethin' like that to an old Ford truck once. Put in a huge motor, made it loud and fast and then one mornin' hot rodded it right into the swamp. Claimed the throttle stuck. Yeah, sure it did. Couldn't have been the "driver" was hot doggin' now could it?

Your nitro is very cool. That wife of yours really likes ya doesn't she? Someday I hope to get my hands on one of Jay's nitros. Another reason for me to stick it out with the helis, learn and get good.

I too appreciate the way I have been treated here. Thanks guys for making a little southern female newbie feel comfortable. I will do my best to make you all feel it's been worth it.

Hey-how about a little applause. Jay has apparently kicked the smoking habit. He hasn't touched them since the stay in the hospital. I knew he could do it.

Better go-I'm getting up early to go meet my Irish Yankee at the airport. Y'all keep 'em flyin' and keep your parts supplies current.

G'night,
Donica

Thanks I actually knew better then to run such a powerful motor on the stock ESC. I am lucky no one got hurt.

I have known for a long time how lucky I am. I have no idea why she loves me. Sometimes as a joke when she says you know I love you right? I say yes but everyone makes some bad decissions. I know she wants mushy at that point so I give her mushy.

Don''t worry about it being worth anything to us this is about being worth it for you. We have all shelved our helis for a few weeks and did what we had to to enjoy our helis. You just make sure you are smiling when you are flying and if you aren''t then don''t try so hard. Make it worth it for you.

We forum people like to help and talk about helis so it is already worth it to us.

Edit:
Almost forgot yeah the forum was down doing the same thing for me here in Cali. They must have been having issues...

Hey tail trackers,
Good to see the forum back up and running. Went to the home page on Friday to try and access from there and got a message that the pages were down for maintenance and upgrades. Seems like there is a lot of that on the internet lately. Lots of new software being released for administrators. Nasa must have reverse engineered some new alien technology . I'm waiting for them to get the particle beam blasters small enough to go on our helis.

Got back home this AM and man it was sure good to see a beautiful smiling face at the airport. Got the work done in Colorado and made some good $$$$. I don't mind admitting that I actually worked my butt off on this one. Flying those narrow passages takes all my concentration and I had to land three times up there to walk some sections of track and get close up photos. Beautiful country though. Still a lot of snow on the mountains but it's beginning to look like spring there too. Ran two full loads of fuel through the full scale up there and covered a lot of territory. No complaints though. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Helismith-I can relate to your hot rodding experiment. I like to zip things up too. Part of the fun of that is learning what you did wrong . I'll bet once you get that motor matched up with the right ESC and gears you'll have a nice little powerhouse there. I'm guilty of doing that to my nitros. I have a nice 1964 Ford truck that I'm turning into a hot rod and I've made some scary mistakes with that too. I just can't seem to leave things alone. Gotta modify. It's in our man genes to spend time and money to make our toys more dangerous. Keeps the thrill ratio up where it belongs.

Donica is sitting on the living room floor right this minute opening her new heli. She is having a real good time there making little happy sounds and touching everything . Looks like everything is in good shape. The carrying case is nice and I think I'll get a couple more of those for the Raptor and the T Rex. I have a couple of the soft cases and I'm not to happy with those. Later today I'll get her started checking things and give her her first lesson on using locktite and ca. Do I deserve to have this much fun? I don't know but, I am and sure as heck ain't gonna fight it.

Better get off here for now and get in on the fun. She has things spread out on the floor and is peering into the workings of the rotor head while she slowly turns it (sounds familiar doesn't it?). I think I better help her get it all on the bench, take her to lunch, get back here and start the process. It's gonna be a real good day for us. I hope it is for all of you too.

Helismith,

Bummer about the Crash. Was it a radio glitch or the ESC gone bad?

Has anyone else noticed that when we type apostrophes on here now they double or triple all by themselves when ya OK the post? It''''s kinda weird. Maybe they didn''''t get the "alien" technology reversed so good.

Hey monocoat maulers,
Whew-didn''t mean for todays bench session to be a marathon but it turned into one. Got "Jessica" up on the bench and we started in on it. Once we got going we couldn''t stop. That Donica is as fanatic as I am. We worked together diligently (with some goofing and joking around thrown in) and got one whole side of the frame checked and secured, all of the rotor head and tail assy done and checked the tail boom and belt. At that point I was ready for a coffee break. I made a pot of coffee, had a cup and still didn''t see Donica come out of the workroom. I looked in there and she was doing up the other side of the frame. She''s a looneytick. Couldn''t get her to stop. I''m afraid I''ve lost my love to the helis . She is going to be a quick study on the mechanics. Has no fear of them and remembers stuff. Hey-now that I think a bit. Maybe I can just sit on the patio sippin'' coffee and she''ll do the fixin'' on the helis.

She finally came out of there after she got through the rest of the frame but keeps walking over to the door and stands there looking at her heli. It sure is fun to watch someone with their first bird.

I''m not too impressed with the look of the electronics that came with her bird. The tx is cheap looking and has no real way to set it up other than the basic knobs and toggles. No digital at all. The receiver isn''t much bigger than the gyro and they cut the antenna wire off to 3/4". I have plenty of whips though and could use one of those. I think I will get her set up with a nice futaba system asap. The elf gyro is a real cheapie too. Gonna have to change that out to a 401 soon. The elf servos look exactly like the stock ones on a Raptor G2. Those are already in the spare parts drawer and the hitecs will go on tomorrow. I ordered another futaba digital for the tail tonight from tower hobbies. We''ll have that by thursday. Oh well, even without good electronics I got a good deal on the heli and it was my plan from the start to bring it up to the same level as my T Rex right away. We have a list of stuff we still need to get ordered and will probably burn a bigger hole in the credit card tomorrow.

The metal parts that came on it look real good. Both the rotor head and tail assy are tight and smooth. If time allows tomorrow I''ll start stripping the canopy and prep it for painting it (ugh) pink. Talked it over with Donica and she agrees with putting some red and black graphics on it for now and saving the fancy artwork until she learns to fly it.

She promised I could take some time to work on my T Rex tomorrow so when I get going on the servos I''ll do both helis.

She says to say "hi y''all"

Gonna settle into a couple of beers and a movie.

See ya later rotators.

Flying Jay,

Try and sell that radio, servos and gyro off no? Maybe you can post it up here and on rcgroups in the for sale section then post a link to it in the Walkera threads. Possibly will fund a 401? Not sure what you can ask for it but without subtrims it is worthless on a CopterX for 3D. As soon as Donica flips that thing upside down the trims will be twice against her. (Ok so inverted flight may not be one of her goals..)

If she is only interested in sports flying then you can make that radio system work as long as it has a good thold and failsafe system on it but I am positive you will have to open it up and remove any notching on the throttle as well as get it to the right tension. Cheap ESC and motor is fine for now don''t you think? She doesn''t need mass headspeed or power right now but I would consider a BEC if the ESC looks really cheap. Some nice wood blades, plastic canopy mounts to save the frame, Gorilla gear skids and yeah don''t waste your time on a sexy flight canopy. If you paint one up nice make sure you get a flight canopy she doesn''t care about to fly with. Then you can slap on the sexy pink one after the crashes to make her feel better. Everyone crashes unfortunately eventually..

I think my stock Align 450 SE V2 canopy looked good for about 3 weeks. It finally is unusable only as of about a month ago now though my friend crashed my heli on that one. lol

Cajun,

They are very pretty arn''t they. If I named mine it would be Glitter!!, LOL. the way the carbon twinkles like sun dancing on the oceans surface.

Don''t lay Jessica down in the dirt, she''s too good for that, LOL. When will you lift her off? Is Jay working on the paint yet? We want pictures.
