I know it is a bit off topic but I had a lot of fun with my 600NSP today. I hooked up some nice 3D all though still nervous. I also hovered 2' off the deck for 30 seconds with my brand new 600NSP while my friend tried to get a decent picture with my camera. All those pictures came out blurry of course.

If you wanna see the pics check out post 21 here.

Man I have built 4 Trex 450 helis in the last week for HeliHobby. My hands are kind of sore but I am getting to play with all kinds of different setups now. I am programming the radio for sports mode, 3D, using hot setups, low head speed setups. I am really getting to be quite the setup expert I think.. lol One heli I am doing now has the 2Y Neu motor and I have to tell you although it is the size of a washing machine motor I reeeaally like it. Lots o response very very cool. Daddy like Daddy wants! Generally I encourage others to build their own heli but anything I build is being done right using thread lock, CA and making sure it is properly setup with failsafe even testing thold landing. I am bringing a new level to hobby shop setup service.

Hope you guys are getting stick time. I actually charged two batteries for my 450 to take with when I go to the field today. Going for 3 tanks of nitro and 2 packs on the 450.

Mike

I've watched the Finless Bob videos over and over and am still watching them. I've 'bout worn the pages off the T Rex manual and have been watching a lot of heli videos on the internet. I can't seem to get bored with the heli stuff. It's fun to learn and I know it'll be even more fun to apply all the learnin' and fly my pretty Jessica. I wish I had more to yak about heli wise but until I get some contracts out of the way and get home I'm limited. Helismith has made some suggestions on a sim program and Jay and I have discussed getting the Phoenix. The old version of Real Flight we've been using isn't compatible with the new upgrade packages. Once I have the Phoenix in my laptop I can go with Mikes suggestion and take my radio on the road with me. I know that's gonna be fun and develop my skills in the right direction.

Hey Mike, that big 'ol 600 looks pretty cool. I think you may have Jay shoppin' around for another nitro. He said he's tryin' to decide which of the old nitros to peddle off to justify getting one of those 600's. I told him he should just get one and don't worry about selling any right now. I know he loves them all and it's hard for him to let any go. I told him I'd help him put up another shelf. And, I'm thinkin' the old nitros would be good for me to learn about gassers on. I know there are differences and I'm curious about them. I'd like to fly somethin' noisy and smokey someday. Jay told me on the phone today that he had just finished ordering a whole pile of T Rex pieces parts and a new Align 430XL motor with a 35GX ESC to try on his T Rex. Said he found a hobby shop in Oregon on e bay that was sellin' off a bunch of new stuff at real good prices. He told me that the parts for the Raptor all showed up on the same day (a miracle I think) and he'll start work on that as soon as the T Rex is done.

"Nitro fumes cause financial disease" . "I don't care who ya are that there's funny" ( to quote Larry the Cable Guy). Maybe I should take a course on treatin' that. Take three whiffs, fly out three tanks, stand on your head and hold your breath. If that doesn't help and you're still concious come on into the office and we'll figure out a more intensive therapy program that includes larger doses, extended hovering treatments, hot tub sessions watching heli videos and vigorous 3D exercises. I warn ya though, the therapy can take years. Prepare yourselves with the proper parts and peer support. You need to get spouses involved in the therapy too so they understand the necessity of it. Take it from your forum nurse, your relationship will grow.

Man beer pizza and pay per view that is living! Oh I do love Larry by the way. That guy is my hero! What you do amazes me I bet there is some level of reluctance to giving it up too it "sounds" kind of exciting. Like ER only moving around from hospital to hospital.

This 600NSP is fun fun fun fun fun! I bought my second gallon today but it was cloud covered here and I know I have no reserve so I kept it grounded. I know me and I will be tail in inverted in a matter of a few internally arguing "no you aren't", "yes I am" exchanges with myself and I do not wanna smash up my very nice heli from stupidity. I think Jay should get a 600N Super Pro they are just rock solid. You have the Finless videos, you have the bling. I know Raptor are nice too though I almost bought a used 30 size.

That is very cool that you have done your research when I got my first heli it was a Walkera 4#1 little 300 class FP. I took it out of the box, charged the batteries, then promptly lifted off. It went left and back smashing into something breaking several parts which I had no idea how to repair.. Then I decided maybe I should read a forum or possibly the manual. lol Then I learned there was a simulator where now I am a hardcore 3D pilot in what is closing in on almost 1.5 years. Of course less than 1 year of that was with a 3D capable heli though.

Now on to the sim talk. RealFlight G4 is really nice and it comes with a mock radio. You can plug your own radio into it also so I hear as well. The one thing about RF4 is the demand it puts on your computer. A laptop even the most powerful one I have seen it run on was still lagged where Phoenix is much less demanding. Phoenix is supremely realistic it doesn't have the "wylie coyote" effect like when he runs off a cliff and hangs there suspended. If in Real Flight you are hovering 8 feet high then you move the stick to 0 pitch and turn the heli exactly sideways you have about an 8 second count before it hits the ground. This isn't what happens with a real heli if you move to 0 pitch the heli starts to fall and if you turn it sideways next not giving it any pitch it will fall faster you have about 2 seconds. On the other hand Phoenix has a problem where you can't really tell how close to the ground you are. Sometimes you can be hovering what seems to be 1 foot off the ground inverted then all of a sudden your blades blow up. Which is not desirable just for clarity.

Any sim even an old one is what you need. There are some guys who don't use a sim and I say more power to them they are heli gods. The rest of us need a sim and the great thing is when you learn all the orientations it starts to be really fun! Unfortunately until you learn all the orientations it is like working out at the gym to lose weight it is just a chore.

Hey you floatin', flitterin', flyin' fanatics,
Another rainy, cold day in NE. I finished all the work realted phone and computer stuff yesterday so I'm spending today working on helis and doing the 3 1/2 tons of laundry I let pile up. I figured I should do laundry when I found I was down to the last set of unner shorts and socks. Going commando I can stand, but I gotta have socks.

Got notice today that all the T Rex parts I ordered on e bay from that place in Oregon have been shipped except for the 430XL motor and esc. I don't know yet why he wouldn't ship those at the same time. I'm going to try and call him here soon. The motor was my primary reason for ordering from him and the other parts were afterthoughts. Darn, it sure would be nice to have a hobby shop nearby. I get real tired of having to call places to straighten out orders long distance. I'm sure though that this will work out. The guy has a good rep on e bay, 100% positive feedback and has been a seller for a long time. Maybe if the deal comes through for Donica in Baton Rouge I'll be living somewhere near a good LHS. There are times when I'm tempted to freak out one of these far away places that fool around with orders and hop in the black beauty and show up in their parking lot. It would be fun just once to see their faces when a disgruntled customer dropped in on them from the air. Bet they would be quite humble. OK, there, I let that steam out.

I got a good deal on an Align 430L and 35 amp esc on e bay. They're brand new, came still sealed in the original package and there's not a scratch on them. Won the bid at $55.01 by sniping in at 20 seconds before the auction ended. They were part of the stuff I bought to rebuild the Raptor and they got here in four days.

Oh yeah, the good ol' radio glitches. Today I'm shopping for an R606FS 2.4 GHz receiver for the Raptor so I can use the new radio. I was pondering why the Futaba 6EX PCM/fm system would glitch like it did. It's a darn good radio system and had been trouble free up to that time out at my sister's place. It hit me that the Union Pacific Railroad has a huge classification yard in No. Platte (largest in the world) and they use a plethera of two way communications out there. Every train has a two way radio on it as well as the gizmos on the back of the trains that replaced cabooses. Those gizmos communicate with the head end locomotives via radio signal. I called one of the yard managers out there and he told me that all of their radios and the rear end devices are on fm bands. Even all the trucks, offices, heavy equipment, etc. have the radios in them and they have 3500 frequencies listed on their FCC license. Well now, I think I know why the little fm band r/c radios tend to glitch here. They don't stand a chance against all those high power radios. I called one of the plank pilots in the club here and he told me that they have been seeing a lot of glitching on their radios here in the last coupla years and most of them have changed over to 2.4 GHz. He said the 2.4's are working real good and have shown no glitching. Okay, that's good news. I'm changing everything over including my nitro race car.

How lucky is it to have a lady that wants me to keep all the helis? Lucky is a mild word for having a lady like Donica. She is beautiful, has a great personality, gets into my hobby with me and is smart (you'da thought that part woulda kept her away from me). Top all that off with a good profession, a good sense of humor and great cooking skills. Man oh man. A rare one for sure. And, she's not afraid to or disgusted by a good burp. That little squeak can put me to shame on that. I can't believe that tiny little body can store up so much noise. I've told her that when she gets the national anthem down pat we'll hit the road and she can do it at sporting events. Maybe she can 'expand' into country music. I don't feel just lucky, I feel blessed. I must have done something along the way to make God smile or laugh.

The T Rex 600N is looking like the next nitro I'll likely get. Helismith, I know you suggested the pro version but others have told me that it's kinda old tech and heavy. They have said that it's a real stable bird but the weight makes it sluggish for 3D and kinda slow for sport flying. Some have called the pro a "rocker" saying it kind of has to rock on it's cg to change direction. I've heard some complaints about the muffler and fuel consumption too. They've also said that the shaft driven tail rotor is bad news too. One little touch on the ground and it shells the gears and those are pricey. I've pretty much ruled a pro out of the running. As I have some smaller nitros already (and permission to keep them all ) I think a 600 needs to be added to the 'herd'. I wonder if Donica would have any objection to a nice enclosed trailer to take everything to the field. Better yet, a motor home (hint, hint).

I feel a need to bring up something about the Copter X maingear. I checked Donicas and it's not the fan type like on the T Rex. It won't provide air flow to cool the motor. I have three spare sets of T Rex gears and will put one of those on her bird. Some Align motor heatsinks are on the shopping list too.

Mike at US Hobby seems to be a good ol' boy but I'm still waiting to hear from him on my other aluminum case. Guess I'll have to call him too.

Time ta quit yakking on here, get some shirts out of the dryer and manipulate some pieces parts on the T Rex.

Tails in the wind my friends.

Jay first I spoke to Nikki a few days ago and she said if Futaba won't warranty it for you they certainly will for us. I know you said you aren't worried about it and I doubt you have to be as long as you follow what Futaba's recommended startup protocol.

Second I could have gotten you the old motor and esc for a decent price you should have said something. Also if you buy stuff from HeliHobby you have me brother Jay. I will get it straight right away if anything is not right. That's why I am on the forum so much it is my assigned task to make sure the customer is happy whatever it takes. HeliHobby is dead serious about being #1 they ain't playin round and you can't beat their buying power.

Lastly yes the torque tube will strip if you smack it on the ground but the gears are cheap. The part that strips is an easy one two three switch and away you are. Much easier than a belt swap in my opinion. I will get some 3D of my Super Pro on video soon I am sure I will blow your mind although I am running JR8717 servos on a Fromeca Arizona Regulator. Also those pictures you saw are after a 4g landing on the skids look how beautiful it still looks. My friend has a 600 sport though and it certainly performs great also.
