Can anyone tell me why i can't get a spark on a fuji 50sb (bought it second hand but hasn't been run)? have tried putting the plug in my mower and it sparks ok. is it possible that the atm (automatic timing module) is broken ? I'm using a hand electric starter show the rpm should be ok for spark i would have thought. ???

While a spark may not be visible when you try to turn the engine over with the plug out, a hand-held electric starter should enable to to get enough of a spark when you turn the engine over. Many times, starting problems are due to an under-primed engine. It's hard to over-prime the Fuji engines. We choke them until they are amost spitting fuel, and then crank them to start.

If you try everything and still can't get it to run, you may have a bad ignition unit that should be replaced.

One trick to checking for spark is to check like you are with an electric starter for the RPM, but do it in a dimly lit garage. A pitch dark garage isn't safe, but enough light so you can see what you are doing. Also, if you have an old prop and spinner cut the blades off and mount the spinner, that way you have the easiest way to align the starter to the engine and no whirling blades to run into.

Hello

I just installed a FUJI BT24 and is trying to start it. There is no spark. Im sitting in my garage with almost no light.

The engine is brand new. Absolutely no spark.

Question;

There is no schematics in the manual on how the kill switch works. There is a unused plug on te ATM module.
I have to assume this is for the kill switch.

So:
Should this plug be not-grounded for it to run?

Or should this plug be grounded for it to run?

At the moment I have not connected anything to this plug. ( So if its supposed to be grounded for it to run,
this would explain it. But that would be opposite logic to zenoah kill swithch).

Anybody? Please?

I tried with an electric starter. Then I got a spark. That is very disappointing. That you need a starter I mean.

I also get a spark if I flip it super-quick.

I guess I was to well used to the Zenoah EasyStart box, that give you a spark when you move it slow over TDC.

With a magneto, you have to get the engine turning fast enough to get a spark. With electronic ignition, you only need to turn the propeller fast enough to energize the Hall sensor. That means a hand-flick is quite sufficient with electronic ignition.

Here's my take. When I turn my 50cc FUJI over by hand I can't see a spark. That being said I can hand start the engine in six or so flips. The spark is invisible to me, but it's enough for hand starting. In my experience an electric starter is not necessary.

The plug is NOT grounded for running. Grounding the plug prevents a spark (charge is grounded).

Okay, thanks Nathan. I have a friend that has promised me to show me the technique.

The reason I was dissappointed is that for my 3 Zenoah's I have an external battery/Electrition box called EasyStart.

When I connect it I get a spark even when flipping the propeller as slow as it possibly can be moved.....

So I was a bit disappointed when I realised the Fuji is equal to Zenoah on this matter, except I dont have an EasyStart...
