I've been wanting to build a nice Nylint for a while now and after seeing BOWTIE's comp Nylint I finally broke down and got started on a nice Nylint rig.

So I'm starting with a new 1:18 scale Nylint Jeep.

I removed the cage, windshield, and a good bit of the body. Basically I've left myself with the hood, fenders, grille, and interior tub. Everything else is gone...including the chassis.

I'll be using the axles, two sets of Mini-T rear shocks, and a good bit of brake tubing. I figure I'll keep the stock wheels/tires to get the look I'm after.

Here's what I'm shooting for, a scale Poison Spyder Customs "Suicide Sally"

Started off hacking the body to work with Sally's design...

...then farted around with the Mini-T shocks. (even though I'll be making a full tube frame)

Lots of work to do.

The good news is that I've already got the correct tires.

Started drawing up the frame but realized I needed to change the body a hair.

Fixed the corner of the body near the windsheild/A pillar so it resembles the Bruiser corner pieces that are used on the PSC chassies.

I'll most likely completely remove what's left of the front fenders and make my own to fit the frame.

For some reason the fronts of these things looked bulky.

I couldn't put my finger on it, but after comparing the front to the images I have of the Poison Spyder rig I noticed that the outer edges of the grille needed work.

The right side is modded, left is stock.

Also made the fenders into flatties like on my other Nylint Jeep. They will still get more trimming once I start putting the tube into place.

Got some tube work done.

So far I've only got nine or so pieces together and I've used ~ 60" of tubing.

Anyway, here's some pics.

Used 3 seats for mock-up. Will end up making a rear seat.

Just finished up a bit of work on the passenger's side rear wheelwell.

This was a complete PITA. Bending tube for such small radii is a pain.

The joints still need a good bit of cleaning up, but that'll come later.

As far as how I'm bending the tubing, I'm just doing it by hand using what you see here...

I bend the tubing (3/16" brake tubing) over various parts of the 6" bench vise you see there. Pretty basic, really. No heat.

I do end up giving short sections of tubing a tap or two with the hammer to convince them to do what I want.

Then I fishmouth the tubing, tack everything with the mig, braze the joint and move on to the next piece.

Initially I was going to draw up the chassis on posterboard then build. Decided not to...I'm just wingin' it...designing as I go.

Keep your fingers crossed. ;-)

Here's a couple of mock-up pics. The nose of the chassis is canted up a hair too much, but you get the idea. ;-)

10.25" wheelbase is the plan...might go shorter, about 9.75" or so.

Got a few little pieces done before heading to work.

Looks like I'll get the upper cage wrapped up tonight...then I can move on to the front end.

Didn't get as much done as I wanted, but it's progress.

In this pic it looks like the spare it tilted. That's due to the nose of the chassis being a bit high when I snapped the pic. Trust me, the tire sits vertical. I also changed the last portion I added to the upper cage. It was a hair low and it just bugged the crap outta me. I cut it off and raised it a hair...mo bettah!

Compared to my other 1:18 Jeep with 4 coils cut. The overall frame/hood won't be but a hair longer than stock.

More progress.

Cut the fenders off the hood and did a lil' tube work.

Still a good bit more to go...then I get to clean up all the joints, add body panel mounts, clean those up...
