Status: offline 		I'm almost ready to cover a FunAero SE5a. I've searched for hours, but I cannot find a good view of the underside of the airplane. I know the underside of the wings is "antique linen", but what about the fuselage and tail? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Status: offline 		You are correct, the underside is natural, unbleached, irish linen. That's for the wings and the stab. The fuse could be painted PC10 or not on the underside. It depends on the particular plane. If you want to be safe then paint the fuse bottom PC10 as well. That's a pretty standard scheme.

Status: offline 		The SE5a in Australias War Memorial is plain linen under the fuse as well the PC10 colour raps round the fuse and wing bottoms about 2" on the real aircraft.

PC10 is applied under the nose and back to the trailing edge of the lower wing only on the fuse.

Status: offline 		The French restoration. FYI you can view the web site in English if you choose to. I am building a 1/4 version of that plane on RCScalebuilder.com.
The memorial flight association has done superb work in restoring several WWI planes. I'm glad some one is doing it!
I included a picture of my Fuse and other shots as well. Hope you like it.

Status: online 		Hey Bob, have you seen the Dynaflite thread where MCubed "Scaled" a Dynaflite SE5a (it looks really good) but the cockpit gun area really looks like a growth or huge lump. Yours has a more streamlined appearence. Where there several variations of the SE5 (he said his was based on the Austrailian museum Se5), one with the large lump?

Status: offline 		Prop, Yes I have seen variations on the gun area. The part you talk about is the metal shroud that covers the gun. Depending on how it's formed it can be higher or lower. My shroud matches my drawings but it is slightly different (lower) than that on the French Aircraft. I haven't seen the Dynaflite plane but I'd be interested in seeing it. I'm gussing its over on RCSB?

It looks really good, except for the cockpit area. He raised it up on a bump so that the pilot looks like his head could touch the top with if it extended back far enough. The couple of full scale Se5s that the few replicas that I have seen do not have this feature.

Status: offline 		Proppy, I see what you're talking about. I think his fuse top deck from the windscreen forward looks a little high but it could just be the photograph?
There is a separate cover that goes over the Machine gun and that is sometimes raised on some planes higher than on others. Which is what I first thought you were talking about. Here's a couple of pictures to illustrate that area.

Status: online 		There are other pictures along that thread, from them it looks like he built up a cockpit bump to make the forward fuse look straight, giving the rest of the fuse a porpoise (sp?) look. I love the detail he did, but that lump just doesnt look right. I have never seen the SE5 that he refers to (not much opportunity to get to AU) and thought that maybe there was a major change in the series that had a lump...........You, to me, are the resident SE5 expert (I have read your articals) and hoped you could clear that up for me.
