I like it, it uses a very "safe" routine and is one of the fastest out of the box dual chargers.

I own one, and love it. Its one of the only chargers out right now that will peak charge my 12 volt starter box battery. The fact that it charges two different packs at once is awesome too. My only complaint is that it does not store battery profiles, so you have to enter the battery information in every time you use it, but that is a minor detail.

Thx.

Everyone keeps mentioning the ICE...but I'm just getting back into the hobby and don't want to drop that much. Would be around $400 Canadian with a Rivergate PS.

The Super Brain is ac/dc, so a power supply is not required. The ICE, Triton, and Super Brain are all good chargers, I would say look through the specs. and see which one meets your needs best. For me, it was the Super Brain, because its ac/dc, dual output, and does starter box batteries. But it can't break in electric motors, charge 4 cell li-po packs, check temperatures of batteries, or cycle batteries automatically. None of those features mattered to me, but they may be important to others.

If you search a bit for 977, superbrain and mrc then there are dozen threads about it, also the 969 threads mostly all apply.

the 977 is good for anything but lithium packs. i have seen warning labels on lipo cells spacifically saying not to use an mrc charger with their cells. If you dont need lipo capatability (even though it claims to be able to charge them) its a great charger.

The 977 can charge LiPo's. It's the original 969 that had the issues.

If you have a 969, you can send it to mrc and they will put the 977 circuit in it so it's safe for lipo. Free.

Did anyone notice that the new 977 transformer is also fan cooled? The 969 is not.... I just got off the phone with MRC and they are going to update both my 969's like you said for free...
I also just ordered a charger form Fromeco as well as i am not taking any chances with my Fromeco packs with the superbrain after all the negative stuff i read about it.... I was wondering if anyone who got theirs updated how they like it and if anyone got their transformers updated as well.... John at MRC said i do not need to send them in but i wonder why they decided to fan cool the new ones, sure would not mind those being switched out as well!

I have gotten the upgrade and am very pleased with it, I don't think they will upgrade the power supply , it is a different one.

UD, Are you charging Lipo's/li-ions with it? If so is it charging to capacity? Also does it auto-shutoff when they are done? This is mainly what i am after the update for....

No, I don't , but Yes it does and I am not sure of the exact voltage though. The update should fix you up fine. (I tested it on a non-li-po battery)

The superbrain 977 manual can be downloaded here
http://www.modelrectifier.com/resour...ryChargers.asp

The mrc guy said the 969 after the update is basically a 977 only with less total current capacity due to the lesser power supply.

I noticed the lipo charging instructions no longer have the 969's impossible "estimate the capacity of your cells to reach full charge and enter that amount times 90 percent" which is where all the bad press of the 969 came from. Estimate how dead your cells are and either under charge or boom!

Now there is a mode that allows you to enter the lipo cell count and charge rate. I don't have mine back yet but I assume it will shut off once a certain voltage per cell is reached.

Like all chargers, warnings galore saying not to let the battery charge un-attended.

I like my 977 so far. The charging two packs at once thing is very nice. Plus the charger is cost effective for what it does.

I recently purchased the 977 and so far have had no problems. For a novice (like me) the instructions are a little unclear, nothing I couldn't figure out. I charge 1800 and 2100 11.1v Lipos. I've charged them both at 1C (1.8amps and 2.1 amps respectively) as well as a flat 1 amp just as a test. It worked flawlessly. Shows voltage, times, amperage, Mah, and when it gets close to finishing, goes into trickle mode and brings the batts right up to rated capacity, then shuts of completely. I discharged one battery while charging another as well as charged 2 at the same time with no problems.

Awesome! That's good to hear. I just sent mine back to MRC today (969's) for the 977 updates. Hope they come back working as well as your does. That's what i was hoping to hear that they would go into a trickle and top them off, Shutting off when completed is even better yet, as i always had to stand over the d!@n thing when charging lipo's watching the voltage. It was a PITA! I since purchaced the charge 4 charger from great planes, for my foamys. I just did not like having to babysit like that! I mean i still look after them and they are charged outdoors and all, not taking any chances but man, to not shut off was just ridiculous!
