Zacc,
Not sure of the receiver issues but I had 2 servos on my 22E start messing up.. first one would chatter real bad when I spun it up and the second just died completely.. both servo issues were traced back to the little red wires inside the servo that are soldered to the small circuit board inside. The solder was too thick and with the combo of vibration and pressure on the wires, they would short onto the components on the circuit board. All I did was run a toothpick between the wires and the components to ensure there was plenty of space between them. That fixed it for me and have not had a problem since.. I was thinking of opening up my RX and inspecting the soldering/wires in there as well, but I haven't had a problem with mine...On looking on other threads, looks like inspecting soldering in the electrical components and ensuring that potential shorts are dealt with may have to be incorporated in initial inspection. Shouldn't have to go through that.. but then again the thing only costs $125.00.. they gotta cut costs somewhere.. I can certainly understand your frustration..

Great.

The sellers response was that it's impossible for the main rotor to hit the tail blades - unless you land too hard.

Has anyone heard of this happenning, as I said to him - if the servo arm broke, wouldnt it be possible?

Hello,
Glad to finally find folks with 22e. I am new to this forum and to the 22e. I got it off the ground once and it drifted left - luckly i landed with no damaged. Since then I panic getting it off the ground since it seems to wants to go left. Anyways, I've order lots of spare parts cause i know i'll need them once i get the courage to go further - lol. Wots a good sim for the 22e? I have the pre-flight but i get fustrated cause the distance of the heli seems to just keep going away no matter what i do - it's either a bug or some setting that needs adjusting. I just wanna fly!

yeah if the servo arm broke (which one?) anything's possible.. what the dealer is talking about (I think) is a boom strike.. when you land too hard the rotor flexes down and comes around and hits the tail boom.. I know all about those... It happens so fast, things seem to explode..in your case, it doesn't even seem like your heli left the ground.. am I wrong?

stunner,
welcome aboard! yep thats what heli's do they want to go left...thats cause the tail rotor is making up for the torque of the main rotor..I hope you got a training kit with that order of parts.. there is also a really good training site that you should check out.. it is on this thread (I can't think of the link)and really helps you with tail control and hovering (I know). It takes three days but don't cheat.. you'll learn alot about your heli and how it works and you won't use up all your spare parts so fast!

The training site is http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html I use the clearview simulator. It is only $30 to buy, and it is a lot better than the free ones. You can try out the demo.

Yeah - it never left the ground.

It was the servo closest to the nose of the heli.

It all happenned so quick, I cant actually tell what happened, the seller is being difficult - and pretty much calling me a liar.

I'm working through a problem right now with a new set of carbon blades I just bought... They make my heli vibrate uncontrollably.. I have them balanced perfectly but when I put them on the heli, it just shakes like crazy.. I don't have a clue.. I have a new set of foam blades coming in a previous order (been waiting 3 weeks from hobby4less BTW) I'll attach those and see the outcome.. I would really be POed if I spent 50 bucks on worthless blades...

is your flybar evenly spaced and centered? also i found that both motors tend to come loose - if they are tighten them.

Make sure your blades are on the right way, thick side is the leading edge, and check the blade tracking first. If it been thru a crash, you may have a bent main shaft. That would do it every time. Make sure your flybar paddels are level with the control tray too. Good luck. Dennis

You might check the cap screws that hold the blade grips on. If those back out, it will vibrate first, the destroy itself.

Yeah, the blade grip should be almost up against the head block, not out 1/16" .

yeah I checked all of the above.. as far as a bent shaft, I took the blades off and spun it up and there is no vibration, so I'm thinking thats not the issue but I could be wrong.. When I get my new foamys I can check it with thoses and see what happens. One of the things I did see that the dynamic center of balance of each blade is off by at least 3mm of each other. I know with the nitro helis if the dynamic center of balance is off over 3mm that the blades are bad and need to be replaced. I'm hoping I can just exchange them..

No heli expert here, but been a mechanic all my life, and I don't think that would make to big of a difference, as long as the blades weigh the same. I think your blade tracking is off, or the mainshaft is bent. You really need everything off above the swashplate in order to see if the shaft is bent in my mind. Then set some kind of a pointer next to the shaft and spin slowly by had and watch the distance as you rotate the shaft using the main gear. A dial indicator is best for this, but the other way we get er done fine.

u should be able to add some tape to the end of the blade - add the tape to the blade with the c.g. closet to the mast assuming u've measured both blades. If properly added the c.g. of both blades will be less than 1mm.

Flybar paddles the same lenght away from the control tray blades balanced i used messuring tape but calipers will work the best. The way i fixed my blades not being balanced was i used the screw and nut from the blade grips and a razor blade and a clamp.I found the center of gravity for both blades as close as posible for them to balance in an X pattern then used the screw and nut and put the blades together and cheked to see if they would balance them selfs close to the screw and added tape to the center of the light blade im my case i used present wraping tape to the blade. If u add alot of tape to the middle of the blade and it dont balance add some tape to the tip of the blade since the weight will make more efect. Its kinda like a "seesaw".It will prolly take u a couple of time to get the blades to balance but after the first time doing it the rest to come will be easier. On the picture the first stripe on the left has tape on it and the third one from the left is the middle of the blade were it balanced and it also has tape on it.

On balancing:

If spanwise CG is identical, and blades weigh exactly the same on a gram scale, and the rotor head is symmetrical, and the fly bar is balanced, the entire rotor system should be dynamically balanced.

As a side note, I just installed CF blades on my VNR3D and they appear to have been balanced properly at the factory-no vibration.
