Status: offline 		tommis.. does this mean I am going to have to master forward flight as well.. LOL.. I was going forward and coming straight back but not really turning like you.. I'm getting there,but your a bit ahead.. Now I have some inspiration.. I was hoping to fly with my friend more, but between work and the kids, we just can't seem to get a time to fly.. where each doing our own flying solo right now.. thankfully he is around at night to help me with setup issues.. I would be lost without help at times.. maybe sunday if the weather is better I will try some kind of pattern to practice on

Status: offline 		Yeah the thought on a FP was just so I can fly "something" in doors without the huge amount of set up time everytime a part breaks, I nearly bought a T-Rex but opted for the 22e because I figured if I crashed and destroyed it Id be less out of pocket. Maybe its a 450 I need to go and get so I can learn to fly the 22e lol. At this stage its indoors flying only, plus its yucky winter here in aus.

Status: offline 		JD, yeh I'm quite happy about that! I finally mustered up the courage to just push that nose down and fly it like a plane hehe and it worked so well! It's actually amazing how well the heli performs in forward flight compared to it's hovering abiluty. Also, in forward flight the heli can handle some wind ;-)

Cenracer1, yep you got it lol. If I can do it you can too - you've been flying much longer haven't you? Yeh, as you can see on my flight path I still back it in towards me for the landing (shown with the blue line). There's a slight chance that I'll mow myself down with the heli if I nose in - but I really wanna get onto that next when I've done some more forward flight. Now that I've finally found my balls again and have flown it forwards I should get much better and more confident. Looking back on it - hovering seems to only get you that far with confidence and after that you're just burning up the motors!

I found that the easiest thing to do is just fly a bit square around yourself: fly forwards and turn.....forwards, turn.....but not slowing down at the corners at that seems to give the heli a chance to play up. I found that the faster you fly the heli the better - it becomes nice and smooth and very controllable. Don't worry, the 22E is nowhere as twitchy in forward flight as it is in hover-mode!!!

Something else I want to do is nose-dives when I get too hight as opposed to cutting the throttle as this also gives the heli a chance to run a much. Just a nice smooth dive at what ever degree to bring it back within proper visibily range. I tell you what, this morning it did catch a couple of gusts of wind and boy did it soar up hight lol!!!

...&^%5! I almost had to call NASA to program in a re-entry path!!!

This is for you, like me who get terrrible wind gust. I have found the problem with wind gust is that when you are trying to bring the heli down(from those heights we baloon up to-35 feet in 3 seconds) yu are also dropping the head speed. Yu need power to fight. this is not good where I am with 30% wind variation, and wind at 9 mph then a gust at 13 mph. wind coming out of the north east and then suddenly out of the south east, or even south west. Yu need power to combat the demons. So i flipped the idle up switch. means constant head speed and control of your pitch. you can take it up and down as yu like. Just before landing flip idle up off. excellent control. You feel like the baddest man this side of California. hope this make you go HOO HA. Ride the bucking bronco

Status: offline 		Turns out not to be iffy servo's at all, swaped the servo's and problem followed. Pulled controller apart and swaped wires on right hand stick and problem followed, ended up being the wee little silver do-dad with the three wires. Inside there I found instead of a conductive plate ........ wait for it.......the conductive part in the black backing is PAINTED on!!!!! Bent the tang over as it had worn a bald patch and hey presto, give that hovering caper another go tomorrow................I guess I'll just have to wear a bald batch in the other sticks now lol. I recall a post somewhere here about hand set gremlins, worth a check if any one else has a simular prob.

Status: offline 		Tommis, good work on your flying, i told you it is easier to fly than hover :-). Not sure how others learn nose in hovering but for me i got used to flying towards me, then i approached slower and slower until orientation wasn't an issue. Before you know it nose in hover is a breeze. Be careful with the dive thing because when you go to pull back you might find the servos locking up on you. I can certainly appreciate the lift issues when windy, have you tried idle up?? you wont have any issues coming down with -ve pitch as phillyD described

Status: offline 		Dodgem, the EF Sabre (like JD has or had), Venom NR2, Exceed Falcon 40 and Twister are all Walkera DF4 clones. The Esky HoneyBee FP is a little different. It has a much better 4in1 and it's compatible with upgraded radios. It also has a 12" tail boom instead of 10 1/2". We all have our opinions. What I like about the FPs is that they're cheap, they don't always break when you crash them, and if they do break, they're fast and cheap to fix and setup again. In the time it takes me to change the feathering shaft and set the blades on my Belt CP, DF36 or HBK2, I can build an entire FP. In our office we have a 12' wide path between the desks and conference table. I can fly circles in that space because they'll fly slow and still be under control. I wouldn't try that with my larger helis or my Blade CP, HB CP2 or 22E. I just think that for learning, you spend more time flying the FP than fixing it so it's less frustrating. At this point, I wouldn't want one as my only heli, but I have a few and still enjoy flying them.

Tommis, congratulations. You were so excited in your post that it actually made me feel good. Nice flight map, too, but I hope they don't catch on and start replacing video
