PhillyD

Mostly hover with slow/medium forward flight, no 3d or outside as yet as have two big indoor areas. I would imagine air flow has a big part but these little motors seem to vary so much in longativity regardless. I bet if you did not change trim settings, same batt and flight path one would last longer than the other lol. Ive pulled em apart after each one died and there is always a missing brush arm and lots of soot........I can see why the brushless shows up as out of stock everywhere.

Hey Tommyjoking I guess you had a whoopsie lol, every one has a different idea but my path worked for me. I read everything I could find and even after reading that the 4#1 was a heap of poo and the HBFP was the best..............I bought the 4#1 and have not had any probs.....apart from flying too much. 4#1 straight from box, receiver wire in a straw eliminated glitching and servo links 1 hole in to tame it down a bit (got a CX2, 22e, HBK2 and the 4#1 is the hardest of them all in forward flight) but they are 20x more durable than the colective imo. I will add the HB has a better hand controller internals than Walkera

I think with any of these little helicopters, as we get better at using them we expect more than they were intended to do, then bigger batteries and heavier metal upgrades take front row to upgrading to a more capable helicopter. I have no doubt my 22e motor would last longer and parts would have not broken if I knew how to fly first lol.

could any one let me know how many teeth on the main gear? There is a formula posted on how to fiqure the head speed by voltage, motor pinion, main gear etc.Usually a 7.2 volt Lipo is max for the can motors.Maybe a bigger motor pinion to get the head speed up.Seems Walkera seems to have just put in a higher voltage lipo to get the speed up.

I counted them once and came up with 138.

Thanks for the gear info.I plugged it into an online heli calculator using a 7.4 Lipo 900mah.The most efficient brush motor on the list was a GWS 300 brushed motor.I'm not sure of the pinions you get or are available but this is what came up.

14 tooth pinion 2270 head speed at 70% throttle, pulls 9.31 amps and you'll get 5.8 minutes of flying

15 2432 ( the norm for hover) 9.98 5.41

16 2595 10.6 5.00

the 15 looks good, need a bigger mah on the lipo, and can the factory esc handle the amps.I did plug in the 11.1 lipo with a lower pinion(12) and the amps were higher.

ok Tommis and the other guys
I got it for you folks. you suggested pics and videos. I am eagerly awaiting your coments with a big smile-only the videos are taking a while to process. i got one with a safe landing and one with a crash, where the wind fell away from about 12 mph to 3mph, while trying to bring the bird down (aggressively on foward elevator) before collective could respond-see how you like. will post link soon. you will notice in the first vid how it baloons. For the doubters, thee was no stick input. Just plain old wind gust. If you turn your sound on you will hear.
hey how long these things take to process. it said uploaded and processing 10 minutes ago (you tube)
Cheers

Sorry guys
Found the problem for the crash. Delinquence. The first video was filmed with 10c 800. After flying around for a while, I changed the battery to 10c 1200 which was giving connection problems, which I ignored(while setting up) because I did not want to change the JST connectors. Now I am fixing, the battery is sending intermittent current. The battery has a connecting link from male red JST from the battery to black female JST to connect to the black male from the 4 in 1. When you wiggle the wire current again. I think I learned. Deans plugs here I come

PhillyD...yikes man, how could you possibly be flying in those winds! That's madness! But you done pretty well setting the bird down in the first heat! I couldn't imagine myself flying in winds like that - you done pretty well. It's more of a battle for me to fly in any sort of wind so I only fly on dead calm crispy morning when the grass is still all dewy!

Sorry, but I think my crashes are better.

But yeh mate, if you can keep it up in the wind like that (nothing suss there) then gees mate, you'd go well when there's no wind at all!

Dammit, I really need to load up some video very soon! Need to try that camera cradle out on the TX!
