Thanks for the kudo's on the paintwork.. sponsorship.. I wish.. just had a bunch laying around and thought they would look better than the plain canopy.. As far as tail rotor life.. its a crapshoot, some last a long time and some not at all.. one thing I noticed is that the battery run time is much shorter (warning alarm) goes off when one of the motors is about to die.. usually a minute orr two into the flight as opposed to 10 minutes...

Hmmm, I can't see where the ground wire going to the can is shown? On mine I need to sand the side of the new can so my solder will stick. so i solder the ground to the negative pin on the motor and then onto the side of the can. Obviously I remove enough insulation from the wire so it can reach the side of the can. Oh yeah, I run the wire and the capcitor's wire through the little hole in the negative tab on the motor.

is this how you do it?

Dash C, I know I sent this by pm to you, but I'll post it here for future reference. Pink wire to the connection marked with the red dot, diode silver band toward the pink wire. One capacitor with insulated leads across the motor pos and neg, then one each from the posts to the motor can.

Yes. running the cap leads through the holes in the tabs makes things more secure. You can just barely make out the cap lead going across the edge of the can at about the 11:00 position. I use a touch of liquid flux on the can to aid the solder sticking.

Does anyone know if an s video cable will work to connect the walkera Tx up to the computer? I notice that the ones on ebay have a usb connecter and I found one guys site who just used an s-video cable with a mono jack on the other side. My computer does have a s video cable port so it would hook up, Im just not sure if it would work. Any one have any experience? I searched and couldnt find anything

this is how I break in a motor.

I run it for 1 minute and then check its temperture
then I run it for two minutes and check its temperture
when I get to a point that the motor gets hot to the touch (generally easy to tell, its beyond warm, more stingingish hot)
I rest it till it cools down and then fly it that long again minuse 30 seconds, lets say it was 2.5 minutes. I keep letting it cool down and fly for 2.5 minutes over and over untill it stops getting hot at 2.5 minutes and then start trying it at 3 minutes again and so on.

finally you get to the point that you can burn through the whole battery without the motor geting very hot.

a drop of oil can be helpful during break in on the gears and the motors shaft.

Once broken in like this they seem to last forever.

And it doesn't take as long as it seems to do this breakin. once it start to be able to handle say the 3 minutes in the example above it starts to be able to handle more time faster so you may get broken in at 3 minutes with 3 or 4 flights (at 2.5 minutes) and then it might stay cool for each of the next levels 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and so on.

the important point is to find where it starts to heat up and keep taking it to that point and not beyond till it is broken in.
sometimes you can smell it starting to heat up, stop and try going 30 seconds less.

Of course this all assumes the main gear and motor pinion are meshing properly. it should feel like a very light contact with the pinion, almost slipping. you should be able to spin the head and it goes around a few times I think. I may try to count, but someone else might kn ow. Of course you will say how hard are you spinning it, just a simple twist, turn your wrist back and spin it forward but not hard enough to make the blades un align from straight out. the blades should be tight enough in the grips so when you hold the heli sideways the blades stay sticking straight out and don't fall down.

I think that was more than 2 cents, LOL, but I hope it helps.

PS, has anyone seen Chris M?

dufault, to connect your tx to your pc you will need this, and this is how you make the cable. What flight sim are you using. The walkera tx is best with fms or clear view. I think others have had a hard time to use it with other simulators. It is easy to get it connected.

consultjdm, lol "stingingish" i will have to remember that phrase, its a goody. I did a quick search in this thread looking for the sim cable info and a saw Chris M, it made me think i havent seen him here for a while, so i looked at his last login and it was a while ago so i can only imagine he is busy with his studies.

would improper gear meshing cause loss of power? my gear doesn't feel like its slipping, but there is some play in the rotor head before it catches the gear.

I replaced my walkera 370 motor with a blade cp 370 motor today..
I had to replace the pinion with the stock one that came with my walkera motor, changed the plugs and added the capacitor that goes from - to + between the leads.

I have no power. the heli spins up to full tilt and just skates across the pavement. I haven't adjusted the pitch at all. (don't think I should have to..)
I even tried to switch it over to idle up mode.. ..that didnt give me anything more.

cenracer, it looks like you have an external esc with a brushed motor.. is this correct? (maybe its just a different wiring harness)

if so, why? does it perform better?
nice paint btw. :-)
