Well I ran mine under 1.5 volts for a good hour and half, then 3 volts for another hour after that. Hopefully this motor will get a good life. I think the last on motor failure was due to not breaking in. It always seemed to run hot, even after just 2 minutes of flight it would be over heating even with the heat sink on.

I have another motor left and will do that the next time I need to put one in just to try.. I don't doubt it works, just never get a chance to do it, and when I need one, I just throw it in there...

Mine was kind of a hack operation to say the least. I just riped off the wires from the old motors I had and stuck them onto the batteries with packing tape. If I can get maybe 40 flights out of it I will be pretty happy. I think the main thing is that when you do it this way, you are less likely to have one suddenly fail from overheating because the brushes werent broken in. When I fly tommorow Il report as to whether or not the motor gets as hot.

And oil the shaft at least in the begining. I think that helps.

Will try that as well JD... I think I will break a new one in this evening as well and oil the bushing.. I want to fly tomorrow if the weather is nice and there aren't too many nice days left here in the northeast... I have to order a few new ones anyway, because I'm on the last one..

I tore my 22e apart completely the other day. interesting task..
I replaced the stock servo's with tower pro's (as far as I can see they are the same thing)
replaced the stock tail motor with another brushed tail motor.
re-ran the servo wires and re-soldered my tail motor connections.
looks alot cleaner.

I need a new landing skid for the front. I glued it. but it wont hold if I land hard.

Im thinking about making a set outof stainless tubing from work.

I looked at my brushless motor.. I'd have to machine the airframe to get it to fit.. i dunno If I want to just yet.
I think Ill wait till I get a bigger heli.

what size heli would a 4200kv brushless inrunner motor go to anyway?

I thought I would flip by and give you 22E guys a good idea. I thought this up a few years ago then forgot about it because I didn't find a small enough BLDC motor and I went to belt tail helis.
Use a brushless motor to spin the variable pitch tail instead of belts and gears. I find you need to spin a properly match tail rotor size at about a 4:1 ratio to the main rotor. 2000 rpm main, 8000 rpm tail.

DashC,

I wrap thread around the broken limb and then put CA on it. It makes like a cast and is very strong.

how do you know how fast your motor is? I have a KV rating.. but not a rpm..
apparently the kv rating isn't related to the rpm rating, because I've found low kv brushless motors that have a higher rpm than higher kv brushless motors (and visa/versa)

That looks like an interesting mod. I'd like to try it since Im going all seperates eventually I just have to find a good way to mount a brushless motor to the tail.. and I have to either mod my airframe to mount the monster that I have, or get a smaller motor. (its a 4200kv inrunner brushless)
I think it'd be sweet to have all that power with an brushless tm and adjustable pitch tail rotor.

on the other hand, im still looking for a suitable kit to build and put that and my esc in..
I'd like a blade 400 kit or a exi450 kit, but I just can't afford the one I want. and the blade 400's only come with electronics as far as I can see.

anyway.. whats CA?
