A fellow writing in R C Report says that the best fuel is 20%Cool Power blue oil 10% Angus nitro methane and 70% Coogee Methanol and no castor. Where can I find this fuel or do you have to blend it myself. If so where do you get the ingredients. thanks for the help.

Everyone's got their own opinion on what's the "best" fuel. I know if I used that blend in one of my engines I'd have so much detonation it'd destroy itself (10% too much nitro ). For most engines though that'd be a reasonable blend so long as you don't have a lean run (no castor).

The guy that writes the engine colum in R/C Reports is from Australia but I don't remember him making any statements about the best fuel?

He lives in Lurnea, NSW Here's his Email but the editor will not let it come out right so I isolated it.

(oilyhand@bigpond.net.au)

Enjoy,

Jim

That sounds like it could be Brian Winch. He's been writing various columns including all engine tests for Airborne magazine for longer than I can remember. He's also the reason I cancelled my subscription

That's him.

One has to read carefully what he says.... To put it nicely, he's full of humor.

Enjoy,

Jim

It seems to me that most fuel brands were founded by engine experts, competitors, or serious hobbyists who all swear that their formulas are the ultimate fuel formula and that their misguided competitor's stuff is absolute junk.
I think that Angus Chemical is the only producer of nitromethane in the U.S. so the fuel you bought at the local hobbyshop most likely contains Angus nitromathane. Cool Power is a trademark of Morgan Fuels, who I believe also sell fuel components including oil.

Morgan sells their oils seperately but the biggest marketer of model oils in the US seems to be Klotz?

Morgan is now talking viscosity. Their latest is multivis?

Enjoy,

Jim

If you want to duplicate the magazine blend you'll have to do it yourself.
Start here to find the nitromethane: http://www.dow.com/angus/index.htm
And here for the methanol: http://www.coogee.com.au/
The oil is listed here: http://www.morganfuel.com/homebrew.htm

I’d just buy a commercially available fuel with 10% nitromethane and 18 to 20% oil.

I use cool power blue oil. It's suppose to have some secret XYZ ,ect ,additive Cool Power racing blends use it. I think their called MAG 7 or something like that. The cheapest oil supplier I have found is Comet Kart in greenfield In. They mail order bigtime. They have FHS 62RM ,Cool power green ,gold, blue and KLOTZ KL 100 and KL 200 I paid $21.50 for a gallon of blue

Go to Australia. They generally have to mix their own fuel. We do not need to do that, we have many reputable suppliers of first class product. Why go to all the trouble to measure the stuff, etc. when you can buy already done for you with first class materials.

Cheers,

Chip

That's not exactly true. We can go to any hobby shop and walk out with some Cruel Power or whatever but a lot of us prefer to mix our own.

There are dozens of different brands and blends of fuels and there are just as many guys that swear the fuel they use is the best. I have never seen a commercial fuel that been around any length of time that didn't work well. I think the big difference is the type of oil used but now most are going to a mix of castor and Synthetic so that is all pretty much the same. I guess the big difference is the color dye they use.
