Once you try and sail it, I think you'll find it VERY over powered.

I put a 4" taller mast on mine, with a square top main, and it doesn't sail. the CLR and CE are out of alignment. the boat just turns head to wind and stalls, tacks, head to wind on the new tack, stalls, tacks back, and just keeps going.

I'm going to have make a new main that isn't square toped, and I've added a 3" bow sprit to try and move the CE forward again.

You were right. It was way overpowered. Back to the drawing board.

Hello to all, I buy in a bazaar a Sea Lite model and pay $5 usdlls by, is new but probably it was in exhibition, and somebody left batteries inside him, this I cause a disaster, with patience, cleaners and weld I made it work and works very well, the only detail is that the rudder when activating it to the left does not cut the flow of batteries and the motor is listened to working, somebody has idea of like repairing it?

my opinion of this model that is first that I have is that it is a excellent boat, and having motor outside hut is extremely usefully, sometimes it handles to another model in a pond and tapeworm but speed that mine, but by 5 usdlls I am very happy, believe me

Installing mods on this Sea lite sailboat will cost you a lot of $$$$. About the only thing left untouched to make this sailboat perform like it's more expensive counterparts is the hull & the rudder.
The stock plastic mast (two piece) flexes & the stock sail is too loose. I have one of these & the best place to run these is in your backyard pool.

I have a sea-lite I was given for Christmas and I tried the keel and sail mods:

The keel is hollow so the balsa can be inserted into the hollow. When I did that the balsa broke after I had it glassed so I had to start all over again. I then made a piece of fiberglass on a piece of aluminum foil that was about the right thickness and width to fit in the hollow. I coated that with resin and then inserted this piece in the hollows. Then I glasses in 2 pieces of mat that were the full width of the keel and 3 narrower pieces to help form the curve of the keel. This came out very strong with no fear of the balsa breaking. I haven't sailed it yet.

Anyways, save yourself some trouble and skip the balsa spacer and make a piece of fiberglass instead.

I do plan on making new sails. I tried but I wasn't satisfied with the result. I tried to making a smaller sail, adding a very thin wire in the luff so the wire could make up for the shorter size. I tried to fold a piece of scotch tape over the wire so that the luff would have the tape as reenforcement on both sides. I couldn't get the fold even so the sail was bunched up near the top and in a few other places. I'm trying to think of other ways that might work better.

Hi there people!, yes, i´m another happy owner of this crappy boat, but i´ll insist in HAPPY. This boat gave me hours of well spent time with my son, but I tried to take it to his next level of sailing by removing his off board motor, i followed the instructions to enlarge the keel (tnx! a lot for the tutorial) and it sails way much better now.

Now, how could i do in order to build the sails?, i mean, without study a lifetime of sail making? I would really appreciate if someone could give me a hand on this. TNX in advance and greetings from Argentina.

PS: Sorry if my english isn´t perfect, is not my primary language .

Hi Niggaz,

Check out the 'Sailmaking Notes' on www.sailsetc.com it's available as a download.

It's meant for larger boats, but the principles are the same.

Happy boating!

Regards, Jan.

P.S. English isn't my native language either, so reading a sloppy post like the one a few posts up isn't easy.
Nothing wrong with your's though.

First of all, thanks for your quick answer. I´ll try to build the sails as son as possible, i´ll document it and then i´ll share it, will post some photos too. Don´t let this post die! keep on modding the sea lite!. Greetings

I have one of these boats, and find it alot of fun to make her go through her paces. I was thinking about following yalls mods and building a set of sails. how would an old umbrella work for sailcloth? I can get the sailcloth, but I have an old umbrella and hate to waste it. but I was thinking of making a another keel altogother. sort of more life like ..heavier at the lower end keel that is longer from the front to the back and a bit thicker and a little longer downward. this might help her point better in to the wind. ofcourse I own a full size boat, a Coronado 30, and there isn't alot of extra room for my toys. lol. that makes it hard to transport and and use every afternoon like I want.
I also added some figures from a model car kit..the homies from a testers low rider Monty Carlo, and he fits perfact in the main hatchway.
