Cool looking anti-rotation plate...too bad it will be painted over.

More work...lightening holes in the gear plate (2 oz out of the plane). Gear was bolted in with 8-32 bolts. Glued on foam formers to complete fuse.

Started on the cowl. This cowl is a monster! Mine weighed over 2 lbs!!!

I notched the cowl ring where the two cowl pieces overlap in order to keep a smooth seam on the outside. Cowl ring is bolted to the fuse with 6-32 bolts.

Also started the hatch. Installed the LE of the foam former, and put in balsa/plywood blocks to hold the retaining pins. The hatch will be bolted down with four bolts through the fuse sides into blind nuts in the hatch bottom. Will probably remove some wood from the hatch bottom to save weight.

Looking good Pete! How do you get the cowl off? I assume a very long ball driver or do the cap heads remove from the hatch side?

The screws come out the cowl side, not the hatch. But there's plenty of room to reach in and pull them out. I've had the cowl off a hundred times already, sanding the ends in order to get it to line up with the fuse. Right now it's only screwed in place temporarily with small servo screws. Once I get the alignment right, I'll glue it in place and fill the holes.

My Yak build has completed another milestone......the covering is complete!

I'm working on filling all the pinholes/weave of the cowl now so I can prep the hatch/cowl/pants for paint.

I'm hoping to have this finished by early May......but we'll see.

Looking good, you will love this yak once it flies. I was surprised with mine on the first landing because I keeped thinking it would fall out of the air, but it flies so slow I quickly got over that and went into the mode of man this thing flies real slow.

I'm going to use Composite-ARF phenolic horns for the control horns. So I'm sinking a balsa block into each elevator to glue the horns into.

Bet you though this thread was dead!

Pipes are in, and now belly pan is drying.
