Got a picture MIKE?? what I`m gathering then, is that by slipping a piece of tubeing INSIDE a standard size tubeing .The inside Diameter is "DE-creased",Right???I would think, that ,bigger would be better ,and just allow the needle ,to regulate excess volume of fuel.Or, Am I all wrong in my thinking??,Or ,I`m not reading ,your post correctly..

I've been taught to do this since way back when Shep was just a pup. I was told that the smaller the pickup tubing the better the fuel draw. Like sucking on a small straw as opposed to a large one. The nipple on the venturi of the AME is sized for small tubing as is the pressure tap I use on the backplate. (Robart Airline restrictor) I Don't know how to answer you cause this is just the way I've done it since Cox was king of 1/2 A Pylon. You just find a system that works for you and go with it. Have fun in what ever you do.

,,Has any one tried, playing around, with Tail-Pipe Lengths, and Diameters,on the BigM 0.061"s,muffler.Would like to hear about peoples experiences ,Good, or Bad..I`m going to, give it a try, myself .I`ll take measurements, of the changes I make to the pipe, and tach the different results.I have a few Configurations ,I want to try..Maybe I`ll have an" EUREKA" moment. I suppose, the experiment, will tell me ,if the effort is worth doing ,or not.Problem is ,I`ll have to put ,the Tinkering effort in first..I`ll post my findings here, later.

Things have been, real quite in the forums, lately, probably because of Holidays..

Yes, I have. I've adapted .074 mufflers to .061 engines for better muffling and less back pressure. With the addition of a rear adaptor and Flyquiet tubing, I get a muffler with enormous volume. You can leave as is or install a baffle and adjust its position to get a tuning effect,,, some 500 extra free rpm. No it's not a tuned pipe but there's an effect and it's real quiet too.

Seen on my Tsunami and Low Stik.

Well, again, pics won't load. Maybe try later if anyone interested.

I finally ran my Big Mig .061 today. I did the oil and flip 100 times trick, then spun it with my cordless drill for a few minutes.

I ran it with Byron 5% nitro 20% oil with an extra few oz of Klotz KL200.

With one thick glow head shim and one thin one it was spinning a Cox Black 5X3 19,000 peaked after about one hours run time. Does this sound about right?

I didn't try removing another shim yet.

I forgot to add that was with two inches of large fuel tubing on the outlet of the muffler.

I've not run a 5 X 3 Cox, I normally use a 6 X 3 Tornado but the blade area on both are about the same so your numbers are quite good, especially if you're running such low nitro. Congratulations.

Dave,

Sorry but for some reason I can't download pictures. Never had a problem before so it isn't the size of the file or anything. But you can see the Low Stik and a lot more on the issue here:

uh-oh, looks like you took all the factory SpeedBits out.
Maybe if you spin it up fow a while with no lube you can have some homemade SpeedBits to replace them.

Maybe the engine was packaged by weight, and there was settling during shipping, yielding that junk

I ran a grey Cox 5.5X4 today and it loaded it down to 15,500 peak. The engine didn't seen too happy with that prop. I reinstalled the 5X3 and it took a while to get the rpm back up to where it was.

Here`s a chart I made up.These runs are all on a new BIGMIG 0.061",it only had, 2.5 ounces of fuel through it for Break in,prior to testing.Hopefully the chart helps some folks.

One thing I noticed was that to get a peak reading I would tune up from a very rich condition, about 1500 rpm from peak and then turn the needle to peak. It would only hold that rpm for a few seconds and then would fall off a few hundred rpm. With big engines I would say it was not fully broken in. Is it the same for the little guys? I have about 8 oz of fuel thru it already. I ran it a lot on the test stand,my neighbors much really love me now.

It still has a very strong pinch at the top so this engine should perform well for a very long time as long as the con rod lasts.

Is it worth grinding the crank and filling the intake with JB weld for smoother gas flow? Has anyone had the JB weld come loose and trash an engine?
