buddude8 -> my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed,now painted (1/9/2006 6:22 AM)

ive posted some of the workings of this plane in the other thread but i wanted to start a new thread up for this. Here is what i have done so far. obvioulsy the covering was ripped off and the wings have been fully sheeted. the wings, stabs and vertical fins have been glassed with 3/4 ounce cloth and sig finishing resin. the new botton fins are made out of 1/8 pyl and formed to the fuse. i used robart hinges for the ailerons and rudder. for the gear i used a robart strut for the front, and covers for the back. I have finally got everyting primed and ready to paint. hopefully next weekend if it is hot enough. The weight of the plane so far with the retract servos and steering servo installed is six pounds. more to come later. oh yah i have to give credit for this idea to my brother who is also working on one of these. this is my first time glassing a plane and he has been helping me through every step over the phone 2500 miles away. thanks bro.

Geez, that really looks good in the grey primer! [sm=thumbup.gif]

Dust on some flat black Air Force stencils and it will be finished!

Buddude8 and I both have DUB 90LX'S for our F-16's. The object of this forum is to show that you can take an average " COOKIE CUTTER ARF" and make it something special. By stripping them down you get to see how well there built and strengthen them up as needed.

johntheroadie -> RE: my cermark f-16 project, (1/9/2006 3:32 PM)

That's just awesome work! I really like what you guys are doing. I love seeing those airplanes that are unique and really stand out and you're going to have a show-stopper once finished. I'm not an ARF basher by any means, but I get really tired of seeing the same 'ole airplane schemes over and over. I also love the attention you've given to the landing gears...for some strange reason that's the first thing I look at on an airplane (I'm just a weirdo). [:)]

Can I glass a Patriot 40?

vicman -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed (1/9/2006 6:48 PM)

Where did the cockpit come from?

willflyforfood -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed (1/10/2006 12:33 AM)

I know it may seem a bit off subjet not being a jet but I like to re-do arfs also. It takes a little elbo grease sometimes but it is worth it in the end. The white and orange hooters plane was a really ugly "ugly stick" no pun intended, that I completely rebuilt/ modified and covered. It will do all of a solid 100-105 mph believe it or not, fast airplane but it doesnt really look it. I cant stand cookie cutter planes so all I usually see when I get an ARF is a blank canvas, fun to fix up.

SPEED51J -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed (1/10/2006 12:48 AM)

GUYS, The landing gear is just robart strut covers. the nose gear is a functional robart strut. The wheels are also robart with holes drilled in them. If you want to glass your patriot you will just have to finish sheeting the wings. We use 1/2 or 3/4 oz cloth with either Z-POXY or SIG finish resin. It takes time and patience but the end result is well worth it. For the cockpits my brother( Buddude8) is using pieces from a killer cockpit kit. Im using parts from an Italleri model kit. The pilots are from k B toys.

Bloodsport -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed (1/10/2006 9:42 PM)

I am thinking about getting one of these ...I want big time fast....looks like you folks have the same idea..looking forward to seeing it finished and reading about its performance.....

buddude8 -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed (1/10/2006 11:58 PM)

im trying to keep the weight down as much as possible, but my main interest was just to have something different. I will say one thing the stock paint job was very heavy. It was almost all sanded off. the wings,stabs and vertical fins where thinned down pretty good before i put the glass on. im hoping it will be under 11lbs fully done.

tzin -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed (1/15/2006 6:21 PM)

hi,

i dont understand how to connect the engine to the body, its seems like they want me to connect the my jett 90 direct to the wood ?

buddude8 -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed (1/15/2006 9:52 PM)

yes you mount it to the wood. I doubled up the mount with 1/4" ply. these pics are dark but if you look close you can see what i did

buddude8 -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed,now painted (1/16/2006 1:57 AM)

buddude8 -> RE: my cermark f-16 project,fully glassed,now painted (1/16/2006 4:14 AM)

put everything together and took a couple of pics. good thing this is a flat paint job. a couple of imperfections showed through, but for my first time airbrushing im satisfied.
