John,

I've had this 28% Velox for almost 7 months now. It probably has around 20 flights because I was in school, and didn't fly. I am having problems with the covering coming loose for some time now. It has come loose pretty much everywhere. Stabilizer, wings, bottom, sides, rudder area. I tried to iron it back but it went clear on me and didn't really glue back on so I had to tape it down (see pics). I don't really want to fly it anymore since the bottom covering has been coming off. Is there anything that can be done about this? It isn't exactly a .40 size plane that I could just recover with $25 worth of covering. Thanks for your attention.

Victor

Vic3d, i am not sure if this has happened because I am not 100% familiar with the covering thats on the velox, but it sounds like the glue has seperated from its clear backing. I have had this happen on other airplanes that have been covered with ultracote, unfortunately it tends to be a familiar property of ultracote, as far as I know monokote does not do this, but unfortunately we can't have all arfs covered with monokote. I am sure John can shed some more light on this for you once he sees this post.

Hello,

It looks like the covering has been heated to its max several times and the coloring has gone and the film has seperated. The covering is a low heat covering. Thats what I believe has happened. All grades of covering will only take so much heat and it will burn, loose its capabilities to stick and re-shrink. We have lots out there and non have done this. I believe Mike your Dads Velox is just over a year old now and it still looks great.

Thanks

John

No, Mike is my friend. He's the one this Velox belonged to, but it has happened over time. Oh well guess I'll just redo it.

Hello,

The covering will not do that over a short time. The prototype Velox is 18months old and the Prototype Yak is 9 months old with the same covering that shows none of the pics shown in this thread. The cover shows the signs of my eairler posts.

Thanks

John

Oh, sorry. I think you misunderstood me. When I said "this has happened over time" I meant the covering coming off on the stabs, hatch area, and bottom. I didn't mean that the covering lost color by itself. Yes it was ironed to try to stick it back.
