Hey all,
I have an O.S. 52FS that I am going to replace the bearings and ring in. I have rebuilt many 2 strokes but this is my first 4stroke. Anyone know of a website etc that gives tips or such on how to disassemble reassemble a 4 stroke engine?

Thanks

Z

Buy this book:

R/C MODELER MAGAZINE BOOKS

I got this one and the same book for the Saito. Gave me the courage I needed to tear mine apart and replace the bearings.

The only thing different between a OS 46FX and a OS 52 is the cam and valve mechanism. Remove the head, push rods, and tubes.

Remove the cam cover. Push the exhaust lifter (cam follower) up into the guide and out (So you will not loose it). Remove the cam and the other lifter.

Remove the carb and back plate.

Put the piston at top dead center and push the sleeve up (if the sleeve will not budge, heat the engine up in the oven 275-300f for 20 mins and push on the sleeve when its hot.) to where it is just clear of the hole on the rear of the crankcase. (If you are going to replace the ring, you can completely remove the sleeve at this point.) With the sleeve still above the hole, bring the piston back down to where the end of the wrist pin (gudgen pin) is aligned with the hole. The wrist pin is extracted through this hole. The pin is usually stuck. You will need some solvent on the pin. Move the rod forwards and backwards as far as it will go several times to free up the pin so you can get it out. I then use a round tooth pick or small bambo scewer to remove the wrist pin. Remove the sleeve/piston from the crankcase.

From this point on dissassembly is the same as a 46FX.

Cam timing... With the piston at top dead center, the dot on the cam is aligned with the exhaust lifter hole.

Valve clearance (Lash) is .0015" to .004" or as shown in the picture below..

Enjoy,

Jim
