luv2fly2,

Have you seen crude prices lately? Up well over $60/bbl in the last month or so ... again. These prices are the result of world market conditions, not US domestic conspiracies. Despite what many think, the US is not an 'island' immune to world economic influences.

The US was the largest consumer of Petro products in the world. Soon we may be the third largest consumer behind China and India. China now boast nearly 300 million automobiles. Oddly enough the most popular import there is Volkswagon. The US doesn't even try to compete in that market although Europe sure does.

So demand has really increased in the last decade and will continue to increase in the future. We are competeling with other countries for oil now. And our dollar is not worth very much because we have borrowed so much from other countires to finance our federal debt and trade debt.

Actually, we aren't in nearly as bad a situation as we could be. Many countries have insisted that the US not allow its currency to become so devalued. They own our debt and they want to be repaid in dollars as valuable as the ones they loaned us. Many countires have threaten not to loan us more money if we don't stop the devalued dollar. But, if they let us go broke, then they don't get thier money back. So, we sort of have each other over a barrel. But it is a desending spiral. No one knows where the bottom is.

I seriously doubt the US will get its finacial house in order. That is half of the equation.

The world demand for oil will continue to grow. That is the other half of the equation.

The answer............................BIRD FLU !!!!!!!

There are currently only 3,900,000 vehicles in China. Unless my math is wrong.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/06/0628_040628_chinacars.html

3 cars per 1000 people in a country of 1.3 billion

Oops, got my stats very wrong indeed. Even the sobrietly challenged caught that one.

Of course, you could wait until the year 2020 and then read my reply, that might work also.

Actually the two stats I confused were the population of the Chinese middle class and the number of autos. The Chinese middle class , as it is defined is about 300 million. It is projected that the Chinese middle class will be purchasing something like 20 million autos in the year 2020, very similar numbers to the US.

I wonder why so many news analyst consider China's energy needs to be a factor in the worlds oil supply ?
With these numbers, it would appear that it hasn't actually happened yet.

And another mistake I made : Apparrently Ford Motor Company now has a plant in China. Its about time.
