Sad to see one good looking go in. Looks like it could have been tail heavy. Anybody check the balance? Scale planes like that are notorious for coming out tail heavy. It looks like the pitch was somewhat sensitive which would be a sign of an aft CG. I could have also been a misalignment somewhere in the fuselage. That is why I own an incidence meter. They are cheap and could have saved a plane in this situation. Before I fly a plane for the first time I look it over in detail. Incidences and balance are part of the inspection. The key is to trust no one. If somebody else assembled it, figure that something is likely wrong. I put in 10 years at a hobby shop and you would be suprised what I have seen. Back in those years I built planes for other people, I would always test fly them for them before I gave it to them or got payed. If you can, see if you can get a demo flight before buying. Power should not have been an issue, there is always a throttle stick. Was the engine not tuned right and not able idle down? I could see a high idle and a pitchy prop causing a problem. I fly a 91 four stroker on a 40 size plane and a 120 on a 60 size plane. No problem with a properly tuned engine and right prop.
