Yours has to be pretty sweet with a 2 cell lipo. Im probably just going to use a 6 cell rechargeable ni-mh pack.

When I bought the boat, the guy gave me a nice spare starting motor so I installed that and in the picture is the old one that still works. The RTS is shot so I figured if I could just change it for the older starting motor all would be good since it fits properly in the mount.

Have an abused Ebay Nitro Vee that is in the restoration process. I have thoroughly read this whole forum and plan on doing most if not all of the suggested mods. My main questions concern the flimbsy plastic outdrive U-Joint and which Turn fin/trim tab to buy. Does the plastic Graupner GR3544 U-joint work without any filler washers to take up space on the prop. shaft? (I can't find any specs. about it's length). Is it stronger than the stock U-joint? Will the Kyosho KYO94425 metal U-joint work without adding filler washers to take up space on the prop shaft? (Can't find length specs. or a source for purchase on line). Lastly, will the ProBoat Apache SW26RS Metal U-joint work? (No specs. available but can buy on line). I would prefer to use metal fopr strength and longevity.
I'm contemplating using Offshoreelectric's Kyosho KYO94471 combo turn/trim fins because they are inexpensive, appear to be the right size, probably light weight and I will be buying other stuff from Offshore. My question is, have many of you folks used them, do they work well and are you happy with them?
Sorry for the Loooooooooooooong and Verbose post with so many questions! Like Arnold said, "I Will Be back." (I think that's what he said).

Hi everyone! you guys are a goldmine of info!

I'm fairly new to the R/C world, but im handy, and i can get stuff done.
Currently i have a Nitro vee and a traxxas nitro 4-tec (2.5r)

I'm putting a spare trx2.5r in the vee, and the car just sorta sits on the desk. i almost lost it in a drainage hole, and ive been playing it safe the last few weeks.
i picked up the vee from ebay, and its in fairly decent condition. i will be doing some upgrade and alterations (ahem, the motor upgrade)
i had considered the 3.3, but after reading, im not ready to delve into that, i think the 2.5 will appease my appetite for speed right now. maybe the car will get a 3.3, who knows?

currently the boat is black and yellow, and has the pro .15 motor. its got prather spin tabs (i think, from what i can tell from other's photos) and an octura prop. however, the prop needs to be polished and balanced, so ill be getting a new one. ill post pics up of my restoration process, im painting is hemi orange and flat black.. should come out fairly nice. i fell in love with that scheme after i saw a ferrari painted that (not hemi orange, its was ferarri red).

hopefully you guys are still keeping up with this thread! i would love to learn from you guys.

WELCOME New Guyz..... ,While i have not personnally done the mods you guys are asking about,i'm sure someone who has will pipe in shortly (be patient),I had my NV stock for about 2 days and went with a full-mod makeover, total cost was about 120.00$ with all parts (outdrive,cable,rudder,etc....) coming from www.offshore elect. the stock outdrive design is really doo-doo, but functionable as long as everything else remains stock, add spin fins (a must) and your good to go,but add a tuned pipe and yes, consider changing U-joints....

i put a SV drive on mine with the cable it will fit into the drive dog behind the clutch so you can keep that, and a aftermarket rudder. to put the 2.5 in tower has a water head, and you will need the multy piece crankshaft... for the ex ofna makes a header that will work,,,, lost the part number on that sorry,,,most use the macs. 2.5 muffler, go back a few pager i showed a pic with the SV 27 out drive on her...no of them dnam u- joints,, go to offshore they have a cheeper out drive.

sorry all yes all mods are very necesary to do. i have since put a tuned pipe on mine. i am hitting around 30-32 mph with the stock 15 trx pro. i dumped the rts system as it just added weight for nothing. yes you can change the gears. use a flat head screw driver under it to pry it up. not advisable to use villins prop. as it is not too good. if wanting pics i will post some later on .....

Hello,

I've been surfing this topic on the Nitro Vee and its got me wondering. I have a old Vee I pulled down from the rafters of the garage and now I'm try to decide what next. Here's some pics. It has the old .12 engine and a lot of fuel rot in the inside of it. I'm trying to decide if I should buy a new hull for $60.00 and mod it up or should I just buy a new boat....lol.

Also you think the .12 is still a good runner or would it best to bump it up a couple???

Howdy...., ,the fuel rot doe'snt look too bad,but you really cant tell unless it's showin thru the under'neath of the hull,in which case not advisable to repair OR replace, if you reference kool-aid mans re-glassin of the hull interior,i would suggest doin that if the rot did'nt go through the outer hull,as for the .12 engine, you could stick a tuned pipe on there for a little extra oomph, and it would not overpower the current (weak U-joints) driveline, but if you decide to upgrade the engine, then quite a few mods will be needed just to keep it dependable.... ,I would stick a pipe on it and maybe spin fins and leave it as be for a good putt-around boat, you could also pull out the baffles in the stock muffler for a few extra RPM's if you decide not to go with the pipe...

hey there. the rot really isnt that bad on this boat. mine i had to cutout the inner floor and make a new floor for it. to this day she still goes ... i would upgrade your engine tho to a 15 trx pro if ya could get one. unless you really wanna speed with it , then i would get the 2.5 but be very careful. add the necasary mods mentioned in the forum and you will have a great boat cant go wrong with the vees
cheers
and safe boating
