Lost my Texan the other day. Flying straight and level the wing seperated from the fuse. Post crash reveiw showed that the wing mounting plate ( the approx. 3/32 3 ply wood plate the wing bolts screw through via blind nuts) and fuse. former and fiberglass broke. This allowed the wing to slide rearward enough that the front wing pin disengaged from its hole and the wing pulled off the plane taking the bottem rear of the fuse with it. The wing bolts along with the broken and torn wing mounting plate and 5" wide 14" long strip of bottem rear fiberglass fuse was still connected to the wing. I flew it a couple of years with a 40 cc gas engine and almost 20 lbs. flying weight. So I was probably exceeding the limits of the airframe. Thought I would share the experience with all. By reinforcing the wing attaching plate my would still be flying. Hope this will help save some planes.

Status: offline 		Finishing up my 3rd AT6. Same setup, Poulan 42, Spring Air retracts, 2.4 Spectrum radio. Hope to get better luck out of this plane as it flys so good and is relatively cheap for a big warbird. First one was lost on a bad battery (15 flights). Second one had a damn 35% Extra 330 get in my way (20 flights). Hopefully this one will last 100 or more flights! Paul

Status: offline 		No, all stock covering except some weathering and panel lines with pencil and spray water based satin urethane on with spray gun. Urethane makes covering a lot tougher and doesn't wrinkle as much in hot sun. Paul

Status: offline 		The wings themselves are pretty strong. It's the supplied aluminum tubes I wouldn't use. Replace them with 3/4" hardwood dowels cut the same length. Hey, F86 SABRE, go to Nitroplanes.com, click on warbirds, AT6, see the instruction manual and download it! There you go! Paul p.s. Flew my new AT6 last Sunday. Flies and lands perfectly!

Status: offline 		Meschmidt....I did one better with the wing tubes.....I inserted and epoxied wood dowels into the aluminum tubes....made them very strong 250+ flights and still going strong....great flying plane...

My AT-6 is in progress. I remove the insignias easy but the number in the fuselage were very difficult, I tried a lot of things that didn’t work so finally I painted over the numbers with Alclad Lacquers resulting in some weathering simulation over the fuselage. Next step are more painting job in the rudder and some preparation of the cabin.

This time I post a poor quality photo, next time I post a better one.

I hope to finish next week.

Status: offline 		More progress, finish the front control panel and the cabin is finish. In person the paint of the fuselage doesn't see like that, I think the flash of my camera is the reason to see like that.

I have a CMP T-6 I stripped it glassed it put pannel lines painted it to look like Miss Behavin I have Sierra gear and a BME 44 for it . It came out real nice but I screwed the Canopy up and have been trying to get another one for eight month from Nitro Models and I keep getting the same BS answer please check our web site for new shipments. Do es anyone have and extra Canopy the would sell me?

Status: offline 		UDET...I too had the same problem with Nitro Models..I ordered a new canopy and never got it from them....I had a heck of a time getting them to reimburse my credit card payment.......I finaly got a new one from AK-Models inc....there out of Iowa City IA.....they also sell the CMP At-6 kit and they are much easier to deal with... hope this helps...Nitro Models does not stock parts they told me thay had to wait for a damaged kit to be returned to get parts....NOT GOOD BUSINESS...

Status: offline 		Guys, finally finished my CMP Texan in the coulours of the Greek Airforce.

I modifyed the model to fit the Robart 620 retracts. Powered by an OS 160 twin Gemini with sullivan on-board glow, graupner digital servos and Weatronic 2.4 radio.

The wings are balsa covered and glassed, paint masks are custom cut from flightline graphics in the UK (highly recomended!!).

Test flight to follow soon

Your model looks great. I like that you moved your tail wheel to a more scale location I did the same. Let us know how the OS 160 FS pulled the Texan around I thought about going to a 160 FS in mine sure would sound awesome.

Hello, I have to balance my AT-6, it is not very clear the way the plans explain it, it say that the centre point is 117mm to 125mm from the leading edge of the wing, but what part of the wing, from the beginning next to the fuselage or where the fibreglass ended on the wing,next where the wood part begin, I am confuse.

If I balance it from where the wing begin next to the fuselage, I see that needed a lot of weight in the nose, but if I balance approximately where the fibreglass end it seen that it is well balance.

So the question is, the plans say 117mm to 125mm from the leading edge, which is the correct distance perpendicularly outward from the fuselage on the wing?

Status: offline 		Mine is balanced 4 1/2" from the wing leading edge, just outside of the gear pod. Flies great there! This plane needs alot of motor or nose weight to balance. Paul

Status: offline 		I'm new to this thread and thanks to everyone that has posted messages to it over the last few years. I've been interested in the CMP Texan for a few years now and since AK-models is running a special, I figured if I was to get one, now is the time. So I first did a search to see what all I could find out about it and the search brought me here. I've spent a few days reading everything everybody has posted and after all that, I just had to order a Texan...which should be here Monday!

Now for my question; It looks like most are running a Zenoah G26 but I was looking at going with one of the gassers that Hobbyking sales.....The XY26, RCG26, FTL26, or the Turnigy 26. Would like to know if anybody is running any of these and what you think and I'm also wondering if any of these 26's are the way to go or maybe I should consider putting a 40-50 size in it. I do like to have some extra power when needed and I will be flying off a grass field that can be a little rough at times. I just don't want to overpower it or cause an airframe failure because of trying to strap on too big of an engine......?????
