Yeah guys I,ve got a set of Robart 620 retracts. But one word of warning though, it is necessary to alter the mounting points for the Robarts as the original mounts are not workable.
thx Dave

Do not order the 620's or you will have to modify the mounting area. The 620's pivot off the front of the retract housing frame. The retracts designed for the CMP Texan have to pivot between the retract housing side frames. I used the Spring Air 100 series and they fit perfect. Some of the new spring down Robarts might work as well.

Do you know what model 100's you used. This is my first leap into retracts and still learnig. Also what strut did you use, it seams the robart strut would work and look best?

I now have six flights on my Texan and It has got to be one of the best flying warbirds you will ever fly. It lands very predictably, seems to slow almost to a crawl. I don't know what airfoil CMP put on this plane, but it is about perfect. My AT6 is using an OS 160 2-stroke. More power than needed. The retracts are Robart 510 series. Robostruts on the legs. I am very satisfied with this aircraft.

Yeah, they were the 103HD's. The HD's take a 3/16 wire. We used the 7/16" Robart robostruts with the 3/16" wire adapter. The reason we went this way is because the gear has to rake forward in order for the wheels to land in the wheel wells that are right on the leading edge, just like a real Texan. So we just bent a piece of 3/16" music wire so that it made the proper angle from the retract to where it layed in the center of the strut opening and lined up with the center of the wheel well, then trimmed it to fit in the retract and the robostrut. We modified the Robostrut somewhat. We shortened the strut considerably. If you look at a full scale Texan there is very little strut between the wheel and the bottom of the wing. We cut alot of the top off the Robostruts and modified the spring inside as well. We also trimmed the top of the Robostrut at an angle that matches the bend in the music wire so there is a nice transition from the retract to the strut.
We are using Dubro 4" treaded lightweight wheels with monokote carefully ironed over the hub on the outside so it looks like it has a hubcap on it. Sorry, I say we because a friend and I bought two at the same time and are building them both together. We will be running converted Stihl 27cc weedeater engines on them. The are very light engines and purr like a kitten. Master Airscrew 18x8 wood props cut down to 17" and painted scale. Repainting some of the trim to change the look of each one a little also.

Will try to post pics soon.

Hi just been reading this thread on the CMP AT-6 Texan with interest, I have had one sitting in the shed for over year just waiting to get started. I need to complete my minicraft clipped wing taylorcraft then I can start the war bird. I purchased the texan as a clean skin just white as I intend to paint it in the South African Air-force colors orange and grey, the only issue is that trying to find some decals of the springbok off good quality seems to be very hard. I haven't chosen the power plant yet but either looking at GAS or FOUR stroke, eurokit makes retracks for this plane but the only issue is they cost more than the plane itself 1 1/2 times more got too question that??????
With regards to the plane arriving with chips thats no big deal just some more work to do thats half the fun. Hey any one got any photo's of the retract set up from other manufacture's?

It should look pretty good once complete.

Regards
Jason

Hi Jason,

That`s a nice looking Harvard. Is that a CMP example? Whereabouts do you fly in Queensland?

Has anyone considered incorporating flaps into one of these?

G'Day AlphaWhisky
I happened to find this example on the forum photo's either just typing in Texan or Harvard, it's origin seems to be from South Africa , how about that. No it doesnt seem to be a CMP model. My Local club is( www.larcs.com.au ) at Logan about 30 minutes between the Gold Coast and Brisbane , its a great field, we share it with a turf farm, nice grass strip. I dont now of anyone placing flaps on the CMP model, but would think with some time and patience and a bit of thought it could be done. Maybe strip the wing and sheet the wing with glass then create some room for servo and flaps seems easy enough, I might give that a go.

Jason

Hey Hi to all.

I am flying the CMPro AT6 with an OS BGX and Eurokit air retracts (the heavy big ones). This bird is flying great! The BGX sends it to a non stop vertical climb (stratospheric)... .
When it comes for landing it goes really smooth and even at high AOA is stalling great ( no tip stalls).
The color is better quality than the Hellcat and Corsair. It doesnt peel off that easilly.
I definatelly suggest the plane even for a beginer in low wing sport flying.
Regards
Johnnie

Hi Johnnie,

Do you have a source for the Eurokit retracts where we can maybe check a price. I know these things look good and are designed to drop straight into this model, but as Jason mentioned above - very expensive in Oz. I checked back in February and the cost then was in excess of $A 500 - too steep for me.

Also, I saw a broken leg from one of these units and there was some question as to their quality. Do you know anything about that? Is that the reason for your comment about ' the big heavy ones'?

Curious,

Alan W

Hey Alphawhiskey,

Here is the link for eurokit.. http://www.eurokitlucca.it/Old_Site/EnglishSite/Eng_HTM/Eng_Modell_frameset.htm
Generally they are the best retracts that I ever had. The Robart ones are less strong and the older ones do not have springs in order to lock on the landing position when you have lack of airpressure. The Eurokit ones lock with the minimum airpressure, so you do not have bad surprises.
The Heavy duty ones are kind of "unbreakable"......I give you credit if you break one of them..LOL
I use also the smaller ones at a KMP/YT P-47 more than 300 landings and touch and goes and still as good as new.. I can assure you that they are far better than anything else offered.
I have used Spring air, Robart, sierra precision and much more that I can't recall now but I tell you guys the Eurokit are far more better than the rest!!
Cheers
Johnnie

Thanks for the link to Eurokit. Can you tell us which model number fits this plane?

Thanks,

Hi Darrell
Just rang the distributor (Model Engines) in Australia and they informed me that the euro-kit
