Has anyone flown the 160 sized AT-6 Texan? I am thinking about getting one and putting a gasser on it. Here is the link to it...it looks nice. http://www.cmpairplane.com/at-6.htm Ler me know your thoughts on it.

Looks nice, hopefully they have solved the chipping paint on the wings and tail feathers problem[&:]

Is that an issue on all of their planes? I think I heard something about chipping paint on some other models like the Hellcat or FW-190.

They all chip on the leading edges, some even peel. They say the problem is resolved but they are still chipping. [:o]

I've got a spitfire and a zero. Had another spitfire lost to a high speed stall (dumb thumbs). They all chipped. Edwin

I`ve just come across this thread having just posted a query on this model on a previous one. Some weeks ago while in Australia I read a kit review on this model in a recent Australian RCM magazine - not to be confused with the defunct USA magazine. Unfortunately I wasn`t able to retain a copy then, but was impressed enough to take steps to order one. This model is used for AT-6 racing in Oz. I heard that an unpainted version was available, and this was confirmed just today. That`s the one I`m going for. I`d still be interested to learn what experiences anyone has had with this particular model. Seems to me this must be very similar in size to the Midwest kit. Alan W

I went back to Australia a couple of weeks ago and returned just yesterday with one of the unpainted ones as previously planned. Has anyone else acquired one of these in recent times and want to swap construction notes? I have a few loose ends to tie up on other outstanding projects before starting on this one. Alan W

My AT6 just came in today. I have not had the time to fully unpack it BUT...what a beautiful bird. I can't wait to get started.

they are advertised in the classifieds right now and are located in California. I'm sure they have plenty. the plane looks very cool.

Ak models has them in stock http://www.ak-models.com/cmp_at6_texan_160.htm Doesn't look like the silver one has any paint so shouldn't have to worry about it chipping.

Just about ready to fly mine waiting for the retracts to come from Sierra. Using OS160 with Jtec pitts style muffler.Had to have it made for this plane because of firewall clearance. Had to have retracts made also cause no one seems to make them!.As far as assembly had no problems used two elevator servos didnt like the Y pushrod. So far havnt had problem with paint chipping. This plane comes in two color schemes red yellow and silver or silver and black. got mine at Jett Hobbies in Vancover BC .Good service talk to Alvin Lonnie

I have two of them coming. They should be here Saturday. I got mine from Alex at AK Models. Great guy to deal with. I called and talked to him several times or left messages and he always took the time to get back with me. I and a friend will be installing converted Stihl 27CC weedie engines in ours. Dimensionally they should be a perfect match and should fly them well. Maximus

Custom retracts? Would the Robarts for the old Midwest Kit have worked?

Snap 232 I had a a set of the robarts for the midwest T6 wish they would fit but would take alot of modification to make them fit lonnie

I'm interested to follow this thread - my first ARF. I haven`t started on it yet. First impressions are that the quality and workmanship seem pretty good although the assembly instructions look to be little more than a second-rate chinese comic. I am planning to use an existing NIB set of Robart 620 retracts but haven't checked them out against the wing yet. These are the ones specified for the Midwest AT-6. I`m also going to monitor what engines you guys are using. I understand that the new OS 1.40 2C engine is favored by the Aussies for their pylon racing. I don't have one of them and am not planning to obtain a new engine forthis project, but I do have one each of the following engines to choose from and would appreciate any feed back as to a good practical choice:- OS 1.60 ST 2500 (NIB- the old 'original' Italian version) Zenoah G-26 Zenoah G-38 (too much?) Homelite 30cc with a carb ex 33cc Homelite chainsaw Alan W

If you need nose weight go with the g-26 for scale flying or the g-38 if you want excess power. If you don't need the nose weight go with the OS 1.60.

Lonnie, Could you give me some info on the Sierra retracts? How much and who to talk to? I wonder what retracts the manufacturer shows in their pictures of the plane? Thanks, Ray

Anthony H, Thanks for your thoughts re engines. I`ll give this some thought before jumping. For openers I`ll put each of those engines on the scales before I start and see what comes from that. Ray, I heard from the Aussies that 'Eurokit' produced a set of retracts specifically for this model. They may be the ones shown? I also heard that they were very expensive and the early ones had problems with the oleo legs. I just tried a Google search on these and would you believe wound up downloading seven pages being a full product review of this kit including mention of these retracts. The original review was printed in the Aussie RCM magazine - issue #71 - April/May 2005. Has anyone either done, or considered including flaps on this model? Alan W

Snap232 talk to darryl at sierra he quoted me a price of 250.00 for the retracts. I dont know anything about the Eurokits retracts! Lonnie

How much does a finished CMP AT-6 typically weigh? The specs say 5.4-5.6 kg but that sounds low. How much noseweight is needed to balance it?

The box on mine says 5600grams which is 200 oz or 12 1/2 lbs if my math is ok.I think thats about the right weight havnt got the retracts in mine yet and didnt weigh it but i will and let you know.Using a 2100MAH nicad pak right on top of the fuel tank so hope I dont have to use any nose weight Lonnie
