OK Sonnich, - I'll just keep experimenting when the weather brightens up again - I'll try to get the main deck just awash and see how that goes. Nice looking minesweeper by the way - it looks pretty big too, what's the sub behind Seawolf on the picture - is it a static diver? I'd really like to have a go at a static dive so that I can lurk just beneath the surface - dashing about under water is a bit tricky on a smallish pond.

Its the Robbe U-47.

I thought that you boight one of theose too?....but aparently not
Its also a dynamic diver out of the box, but I have been thniking alot about installing ballast tanks to make it a static. There is plenty of room.

Hi Sonnich - nice looking sub. I'd like a dynamic diver based on the Type VII but I'm not sure I'd be able to convert one. There doesn't sem to be one available which is around a metre long -our club pond isn't really big enough for one of the larger models. I went to our pond on Saturday and the weed was so bad it was impossible to even use a surface boat, so I couldn't mess with my ballast - anyway I've bought a 10ft garden pool so that I can use it for testing the ballast on any models I build - and in the unlikely event that we get a hot summer this year I'll be able to jump in it to cool off.

I was out on the pond with the seawolf today , and again not without incident!

A guy testing his new 23cc gas boat decided to try and slpit the little Seawolf apart on the middle!
I was comming out of a dive, when i just saw his boat and heard a bump.
I was not 100% sure he hit me, because I could not see any damage on my sub at the distance.
Well, it turned out that his sharp metal steering fin had hit my sub. Luckily, those things are spring loaded, so i guess some of the shock was disipated.

Well, it was only a deep scratch, so i decided to sail around some more.
Then suddanly, I could not turn in one direction! Hmmm......got it back to shore, and found the lower part of the rudder fin missing.
It must have snagged the bottom when I was doing some deep dives.

Anyway, one of the guys took his Engel Typhoon with him. And it is an awesome submarine! 25kg`s dry, and about 50kg`s full of water. Man, that is a beast to get in and out of the water!

Ouch! looks like you were lucky there was no more damage. Thanks for posting some picture of the Typhoon, that's going to be next sub. Is that foam filled box a transport box or some sort of device to make launching easy??

Its just a transport box.

it looks like he made it himself with expanding foam......but it might also come like that from the factory.......its a perfect fit

The Typhoon is just so massive and cool. Unfortunatly they dont come for free, so I dont think i will own one soon
But....it is not very manouvarable....the seawolf raced around in cirkles about it.....but I quess it was not designed to perform like the Akula class

More pictures to come when my friend sends them.

Hi Sonnich - Nice pictures but you do seem to be having a run of bad luck at the moment. I finally got the seawolf nicely ballanced - I just speed up the boat and it goes into a gentle dive then I leave the throttle alone and just glide along using the rear planes for the depth. I've just got back from having a long weekend in London - while I was there I visited the boat section of the Science Museum, it was really interesting to see the submarine developments - there was a model of a modern sub and it looked just like the Seawolf - and there was a model Diorama of it at sea and the decks were just awash with the nose just under the surface. - just like the Seawolf is when travelling. The last time I went to the club I did notice a rock in the bottom of our pond so I'll have to get it shifted before I forget about it. Anyway I feel confident with the sub now - here's a picture of my Sub drivers hat.....

well I am very fortunate to have clear and safe places to run the Seawolf. I cannot get over the damage that occurs with murky water and hidden objects...
so what are you gonna do about the rear bottom fin?

Well, about 12 years ago I actualy built a seawolf mk1..... but it was not a sucess at the time. During the years, it has been crushed and broken and is in pieces.
But I found the tail fins for it, and have glued one of them back on

Never throw out usefull stuff!

Hello guys,
Just bought a Seawolf kit today, so thought i'd say "Hi" to you all, as i've just finished trawling through all the threads on here.....

I'm going for Static Dive mods during the build, and also a pinhole Camera pod and directional LED's for underwater illumination.....but until the kit arrives, i can't make any measurements.....here's hoping my mods will work

Hi Sunktwice - hope you have as much fun with your Seawolf as we obviously do - just yell if you want any tips during or after the build - you might even be able to change your handle to 'More than Sunktwice'

Cheers Ian...

My last excursion into hand-built subs resulted in a very expensive sinking.....developed a fatal waterleak 5M out in a pond...

The one before that ( my 1st build) was a deep-sea scale of a survey sub...........that one decided to develop an ESC fault mid-dive, and ram itself into the bottom of the local pond...and split the hull......so i've opted for a semi pre-build....here's hoping !!

Hi Sunktwice - Well I reckon you've had the sort of luck that Sonnich gets - but at least he manages to get his sub back each time. I think you'll like the Seawolf - it's quite robust and likes to pop back up to the surface fairly easily - I don't think you would damage the WTC unless there was a major mishap. Some folk convert the Seawolf into a static diver - there's a good thread on here if you want to take a look for later - it's www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=302419 ... but I'm happy with mine as dynamic for the time being, at least it pops back to the surface when I shut the throttle down. Good luck with it anyway mate.

From what i've read and researched, the seawolf looks like a sturdy vessel for the price....and i'm planning to do the static conversion during the build, then I can make any adjustments as i roll.

I've found more info on the static dive system, and could actually opt for a solid ballast tank inside the WTC instead of the bags, as i'm using a 6cell batt pack instead of the drycell bhemoth that robbe suggest, which gives more room.

Getting impatient now...i just want it to arrive so I can start

My Seawolf sub by NIkko This is a 2004 version of the classic Nikko submarines of the 1980's. Watertight hull has been reinforced against leaks that plauged the First Nikko subs designed 20 years ago. Electronics were upgraded by Nikko to match the reinforced sub hull.

The 2004 version of the Nikko Seawolf looks OK - does it perform like the older version as a static diver with a motor under the hull, and does it have a reasonable range?

Just a little note, the Nikko Seawolf is NOT a static diver!! People often confuse static divers with dynamic diving toy subs just because they submerge vertically. What makes the difference is that static divers dive vertically and stay submerged, unlike the dynamic diving subs which dive vertically but does not stay submerged (e.g. Nikko Seawolf, Motorworks subs).

Hmmm... I thought the Nikko version could just be pulled under water vertically by using the motor under the Hull, then kept stationary at a given depth. Must have got the wrong idea - I'm happy with my Robbe Seawolf at the moment even though it's a dynamic diver - but I'm always looking for something new (but not too complicated) My dream is a U47 WW2 Sub with the guns and deck railings etc but I'm not sure I've got the patience to do one - but we'll see later....
