The 2004 version of the Nikko Seawolf looks OK - does it perform like the older version as a static diver with a motor under the hull, and does it have a reasonable range?

Ian

The new 2004 Seawolf submarine by Nikko radio operating range is identical to it's ancestor, the Ocean explorer, Sea Star, Atlantis. All of the operate at a maximum range of 60 to 80 ft.
I've tried using a 27 Meter, 3channel AM band radio transmitter & got the range out to about 120ft. At that range the Seawolf's sail is just a speck on the water surface. It's difficult to spot unless you've got a 50 X telescope to find the sub.

Hmmm... I thought the Nikko version could just be pulled under water vertically by using the motor under the Hull, then kept stationary at a given depth. Must have got the wrong idea - I'm happy with my Robbe Seawolf at the moment even though it's a dynamic diver - but I'm always looking for something new (but not too complicated) My dream is a U47 WW2 Sub with the guns and deck railings etc but I'm not sure I've got the patience to do one - but we'll see later....

I imagine with the Nikko Seawolf, the vertical thrust propeller must be kept spinning in order to keep it submerged. It requires the operator to keep his hand on the transmitter stick to keep from being neutral. Another considerable difference would be the use of ballast tanks in static divers.

Well I've had my sub for three years now - still having a great time with it as a dynamic diver. The secret is in getting the balast just right to allow a slow speed dive - it does help of course with having a Hitec transmitter , the throttle stick is set in aircraft mode and does not return to the centre position automatically when released. This is a particular advantage for sub driving 'cos you set the speed and don't have to concentrate too much on keeping a constant speed - having said that, the problem is on a small pond you don't get long enough in one direction before having to do a turn - turning slows the boat slightly needing a throttle increase otherwise up she comes. At the end of the day it's just practice I suppose.

If you want any details of where you can get a Robbe Seawolf Esunnyboy there are a few available suppliers in the UK, I got mine from www.amodelworld.co.uk - they were the cheapest I could find.

Cheers All,

Periscope.
