Hi Guys,

I am looking for some sites were people have documented their building of a Ziroli SBD Dauntless. Also I am looking for some sites were there might be some good documentation.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated :)

Bill, if you build this one, let us know how it goes. I had one of the old cox Dauntless u-control planes back around 1958 or so. You don't know how I wish I would have kept it! I've been thinking of building the Ziroli version, but I have 3 kits in front of it.

Yup, You bet. That would be the smallest I think. A true 1/3 would be 166" but there would be some extra work in the vectors that Joe Huntley has done (Thanks Joe) for the laser cutter. Jeff, what engine would you suggest I use for this bird?

Bill....a lot will depend on finished weight and how fast you want it to go. I would opt for a 3W150 minimum. Others would be a ZDZ160 or ZDZ210 or a 3W200 or 3W240. I think the ZDZ210 would be a great choice. Lots of power and resonably priced at about $1400 new. 21 horse engine with 115 pounds static thrust. Should fit in the cowl. Go to RCShowcase for engine specs and size.

If you're serious about scale detailing, you've gotta get the book by Bert Kinzey called "SBD Dauntless in Detail & Scale." I've got a bunch of books on the SBD, and it is by far the best one out there. It shows virtually every detail imaginable and answered almost all the questions I had and couldn't get answered in any other book. This book is highly reccommended by all the IPMS guys, and they take scale to the nth degree.

It's one of the Squadron Signals Publications series, and can be ordered online from a number of bookstores (nobody appears to have them in stock right now... may have to backorder). I was lucky enough to find one at a local hobby shop!

Hahahahaha, You’re killing me! :eek: ;) Just ask a couple of Japanese WWII Navy survivors if they did anything. I am sure it taught a few of them how to be expert swimmers! :p

I have that book; I bought it the day after I received the Ziroli plans 2 years ago. Just goes to show you how fast I work! :rolleyes: It is a VERY good book indeed and it has a lot of great stuff including the cockpit area at every angle you could think of.
