carlyle -> 30 to 90?? am I crazy? (1/27/2006 8:51:39 PM)

Hello everyone.

I have been flying my raptor 30 for about 5 months now. I've really been wanting to get a raptor 50 with a hyper engine, and kind of deck it right out... but I've now been toying with the idea of getting a 90 instead.

I feel I've advanced quite well with my 30, and I dont want to be disapointed with a 50. When I fly my 30, it just extreemly lacks in power... When I'm doing flips and hard turns, tick tocks (really bad), the helicopter just bogs right down to nothing. If I do 2 flips in a row, the head speed is down so low, that I have to wait a few seconds for it to come back up. I know its set up properly... or at least close enough. The engine is a OS 32.

Anyways, I have flew airplanes for a year or so before I got into helicopters... and my flying style with airplanes was considered by most to be "out of control", even though I was in complete control. I was the kind of pilot that would put the plain into just stupid tumbles, spins, etc... but never had a insident.

Anyways, what I'm getting at is this... I've been watching some of the alan zabo jr videos on the internet... His flying style is really quite close to the way I feel I will be flying in the future... (Obviously not as good, but that same style)... and I don't want to invest a pot of money in a helicopter that I won't be happy with.

Is a 50 capable of comming anywares near what alan is doing with his 90? Would I be happy with a 50?

Obviously the cost is more... and I would like to stick with a 50, but I dont want to have a helicopter that I'm not happy with.

Does anyone know of any videos online of someone really putting a 50 to work? a video with the 'out of control' style of flying? When I say out of control, dont get me wrong, I know these pilots are in complete control, but it just looks crazy, you know?

Please help me out guys,

Carlyle

I can do everything with a 50 that I can do with a 90 with the exeception that I can auto a 90 a LOT better but thats the blades and their inertia, not me.

The 50 requires a touch more finesse on the cyclic as it doesnt have the brute power but Alan Szabo could take your 30 and fly it like that, its more the pilot than machine, trust me on this, I've been put to shame on my own machines.
Another thing to consider is the 90 burns fuel in what seems like a quart a flight.

the hyper 50 has TONS more power than your 32-If you arent happy with your 32's performance, maybe you should grab a used OS 37 from here or Ebay and try that in your current chopper-it'd save you a lotta money and kick your performance up a lot

As Barracuda says...it really is the pilot more than the machine. Don't let anyone tell you a 30 is not a very capable. I get impression most people think they've out grown their 30 a bit to prematurely! But as RoyLflush says, the OS 37 would give you so much more power than the 32 and especially with a tuned pipe.

Check out Alan messing about with a raptor 30...

Thank you again guys...

I will get a 50 then... I'm not going to bother spending any money on my 30 right now... Its a old v1, and I'm wanting to get something really nice.

Thanks again, very much,

Carlyle

That video is great! I can't beleive it! Maybe when I have a pair of blades that I'm going to throw away, I will try that too! haha.

Where can I go to find more videos like that? I always wait and look around RCU and people post some cool videos, but where can I find more like this one?

Also, kind of off topic, but what way do most people do inverted hovering, tail in, or nose in? whenever I see pictures of video of anyone just doing a standard inverted hover, 90% of the time it is nose in... I ALWAYS inverted tail in... Is there any reason for this?
