Thank's for advice (remember to get the plane)... Now im doin most of the 3d tricks with out any doubt
I can do torque rolling, hover's, knife edge and even inverted hovering!!!! well ofcourse im high up when im doing those tricks. i als upgraded mine to a 2100 mah pack... awesome! I have unlimited vertical etc...

Paul,

It flies really well. Its faster and rolls and loops much better. Climb rate is very good. I would have to say landings are more difficult. Its a very twitchy bird and you have to fly it every second.

But the performance (with Edge guts and a 12x6 prop) is excellent. On grass, Id say its too fragile too last the whole season for me. I fly a lot on soccer fields with 13/4" foam tires. But the carbon fiber gear is bolted to balsa with no bracing and it just chews it up. Also a couple of rough landings (no crashes) and I am gluing and splicing little balsa parts all over the fuse. I think its just because its so small and the wood parts are just tiny.

Still, I like the plane.

Sal

Sal,
If your TX has dual rates, setup a landing mode with more expo and less contol surface travel on the elevator.

I've been flying mine in a regular basis for over a year and have not broken the LG or fusalage. I broke out the LG several times on my first one that I purchased in December '04. Unfortunately, it was only 2 months before it was crashed. I took off with the TX set to another model and totaled it. MF #1 was 24oz and landing was not as slow and easy as MF #2 at 21oz. Also, I have more experience flying these type of planes now and that could be a factor.

For flying in relatively tall grass I use GWS 3" wheels. Look at the pictures in post #23. If the grass is shorter, I use smaller wheels.

Paul,
The only balsa that broke on mine was due to pilot error before I learned to fly it (not counting having the TX on the wrong model). I've been flying the MF for the last 14 months without a single piece of broken wood (knock on wood)! He He He!!!

I'm sure that the E3D is a great plane but not in the same class as the MF, it's quite a bit larger.

Hi Phillip,

I believe most of the breaking in my plane is on takeoff due to bouncing and wheel stress on the soccer fields I fly it on. I have been hand launching ot to lessen this.

I think its because its just so small. I still think its a great flying plane.

Yes, the E3D is a much larger plane than the little funtana,..but I also have the mini-E3D which is in the same size range, although substantially lighter http://www.gwmp.net/HTML/miniE3D.htm

The original E3D arf is now being offered as a combo with the hacker A30 12XL and X40 speed control, for $249, so although it's in a larger class of planes, the cost difference is not as much as you would think.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for responding. The little one looks like it would make a good home for my Hacker A20-20L. But you know us modern flyers, we're addicted ARF's. I think it's called "instant gratification". He He He! Seriously though, being laser cut, that little one should go together quickly, plus with a custom covering it won't look like everyone else.

Off topic, but did you design the Lil' Banshee?
Phillip

Sal,
Try some of these 3" GWS wheels, they act like shock absorbers.

Sal,
They do look bad, but are functional. They're aerodynamic and lightweight. Black paint might help.

Newbie needing some prop help here! I am trying to put together the MUS (first assembly I've ever attempted) and somehow have 10x7 slow flyer prop. Will this work with the 480 1020kv and an e-flite 2100mah battery? or should I order a different prop? Seems like most everyone is using an e prop.

Also, how do you drill out the prop hole and get it right? 4mm shaft - do you need a 4mm drill?

Lost and confused.

Thanks for any help!

Ohio Guy,
I use a Exacto knife with a #11 blade to reem out the prop. The Slow Fly APC props do use more amps the the "E" props, but they also provide more thrust. Your setup will probably be OK, but I highly recommend getting a amp meter to verify the draw. At the very least, check your battery and motor for heat. I have a 480 910Kv in a Mini Ultra Stick and it draws 21 amps with a 11x7E prop. I'm using the older Gen II TP 2100 batteries and they never get above warm.

The Mini Funtana e may have it's drawbacks, but once you master it - Damn! Its so graceful and so aerobatic. It's amazing.

Well worth the trouble to learn its quirks. Now it seems so effortless to fly.

Paul,

I am using everything out of the edge, except I had to buy and extra servo since the MF has a servo for each wing. I think the stock 850 kv motor put out 21 oz of thrust with the 11x4.7 prop, with the 12x6 I am guessing 25- 26 oz. of thrust at speed. The plane weighs about 21 oz. It has quite a bit of vertical, although I have trouble hovering for any length of time.

I have the MF it's a great little plane!! Set it up for sport flying and have some great fun!
It's a great sport plane and can 3d, with the wing in the forward position.
I just bought the MUS, a sweet little plane, should be a lot of fun!
