Apparently your one of the chosen few who know how to tune an engine. I've never had much trouble with any of my Supertigers

Well, I´ve tried the Fox RC long plug for a while. No deadsticks, however, you loose a LOT of power, so I decided to go with an OS #8 plug, much better performance but you better set the high speed needle right or you will go deadstick.

My question is, which is the ideal glow plug for the 2300? I have a stock engine with stock muffler and now running 0% nitro (used to run 5% but 0% gives me about the same performance, so 5% nitro not worth the extra money)

Any suggestion appreciated.

I had good luck with OS - F. 9000 r's with Xoar 17x6 prop...perry pump...lightning quick throttel response..good idle.

OS F plug worked fine in mine. I usually used Thunderbolt four stroke plugs from hobbypeople. Nice hot plug, cheap, and somewhere between a OS F and #8 heat range. With summer coming on a F can be too hot for some engines but on the other side of things you are using little to no nitro so it would probably be fine.

OS #8 with 15% nitro and it'll run fine.

Well boex You have found an RC LONG works good , but you say performance is down. Do me or us a favor and Tach the OS8 at WOT and put in Fox idle bar plug and don't touch the needles. Now give us the RPM figires...............

I replaced the stock ST plug with an OS F plug after running about 3 gal of 5%. The F plug made both needle settings act about 1 click richer than the stock plug. Peak and idle rpm remained the same. If the F plug is 100% then the stock ST plug was 95%, at least once the carb was set. The stock plug was actually allot easier to start using the reverse flip method because the F plug tends to run backwards half of the time, the ST plug never did.

Speedster, I have a Sullivan remote glow plug connector so I can keep my fingers away from the prop. It is not that easy to change plugs as it seems, you have to twist and push the head lock securely and it might be tricky, specially with an OS plug.

My guesstimation of the loss of rpms between the the 2 glow plugs would be in the hundreds, it is significant and very noticeable . I took a reading at WOT the other day, using the OS#8 plug, spinning an APC 17x6 and it came at 8,150 rpm. I´ll see if I can tach the Fox plug sometime in the future.

That rpm is very low for that prop. Even on 5% nitro, it seems it is not broken in yet. I haven't used a 17-6, but the 17-8 turns over 9000 on 15%. I would think a 6 would be way over 10k. My 16-8 does 9500 on 15%, and flight performance suffers.

Yeah, it is kind of low for that prop. However, I am using 0% nitro and the high speed needle valve was set to fly as reliably as possible (no drop in rpms when you pick up the model and point it upwards).

I tend to agree that it is low, but...I'm also beginning to think that like most of these high production engines, that some of you, including you, have gotten the ones with the absolute best tolerances.

I've noticed over the years running some Taiwan made XTm 24.7 car engines that every once in a while I get one that is exceptional, and definetly more powerfull than the norm, like comparing a modded motor to stock.

My G2300 as noted before is swinging a 16 X10 at only 8200 and compared to yours, I believe thats about 1K under what you could turn.

Just keep running it, it'll get better with time. On a two stroke engine, the only thing that can make one stronger than another is the compression. The other variables will have a much smaller effect based on machine tolerances. Getting the ring seated properly is where the power comes from.

I use 15% omega. I have found that the needle settings need to be open more than with low nitro fuels. The rpm difference is not excessive, but the overall performance of the engine is noticeably better with higher nitro. Now that it is good and broken in, I should try 5% again just to see what it does.

Hey Not 24...I was from Suffolk, VA. Living in Ct now. What field do you fly out of?

Now to my ST2300 question. I love the engine. It runs great now that it is fully broken in.

My setup:

APC 18x8 prop (pattern)
OS F plug
Byrons 15% fuel with castor blend (20% total oil)
runs great and transitions beautifully.

When I fine tuned the low end needle valve for loading up on the low end, it worked perfectly as designed.

One problem...for some reason, the set screw that fits in the grove on the carb barrel gets pushed in and stuck somehow, and the carburator sticks when the throttle advances. Sometimes it gets stuck at half throttle and sometimes at full throttle. It is very scary because of the possibility of getting out of control on the ground.

I have disassembled the engine twice, and found no debris or FOD (foreign object or debris), but I have notice that if you push a little against the rubber boot that protects the carburator barrel, it will rub against the set screw in the grove. I have not figured out how not to push this out of synch and prevent the throttle body from getting stuck. Maybe it is the spring in the carb barrell, or maybe the set screw in the grove of the barrel is faulty. Or maybe it is just a crappy carb all together, but I am looking for someone with help or a similar experience, so that I can learn from them.

I've been swinging a 14/8apc at 10,300 for 2 years but i am also at 5200ftagl. I'm sure it would be around 11k if I were at sea level. Engine runs fine with a Jett Muffler on a Dago

TMW09-- Theres a screw on the carb that acts as a guide to keep the barrel from sliding around. it is very jagged and needs to be smooth over. This is what is making the throttle stick. This also happens on other ST models. Been there, done that. Every new ST I buy gets that screw removed and smoothed over along with the groove on the barrel.
