Just for reference, is that the CG Sukhoi? I have one still in the box.

14-8, are you serious? What are you turning, about 13000? I'm getting just over 9000, and I like it a lot there. The 16-8 was too little prop (for my plane).

I had been flying my OS 1.08 lately. I forgot how sweet the 2300 is with the slimline pitts muffler. It really sounds good. I haven't heard a better sounding two stroke yet.

Yeh , It's been on that Dago I've been ragging on you about since you started this thread . I'm getting in the mid 11's but I'm at 5000ft so could be in the 12's in dog years or around sea level. Bob has a photo on the Jett page of when it was purple and i rebuilt it for the heck of it a couple winters ago. Basic hobbico retracts. i drilled them out and installed 3/16 struts and made the nose solid instead of a cowl. Let me see if I can find some old shots here.

I originally bought this off ebay as an intentional POS beater to just slap together but darned if it didn't turn out to be one of my better flyers.

This things is really a solid flyer.

Well, the engine ran perfectly today for two flights. I had forgotten what a sweet flying plane my Sukhoi is. The only concern I have is that my high needle was very vague, and seems to do next to nothing. This is strange, because that's what the ST carb did. I know it's not a fuel pressure issue, because it did the same thing with the pump, only I could never get it set right. I still think I have an issue somewhere in the fuel system to find. Everyone commented on the sound of my engine, especially when throttled back in a dive. I must say, now at this point, it's the best engine I ever had.

you have a great deal of experience with this engine, but sometimes a simple thing is overlooked.

Usualy if the main needle is having little effect or none, it is over propped.

could that be the case?

No way, not on this engine. They call for an 18-8 prop, but I run a 16-10 or a 17-8. A 16-8 winds up closer to 10000, and gets very loud with no more performance to show for it. I have it propped to be between 8800 and 9200, depending on conditions. Bax says it should only turn 7300, which it will on a 18-8. That is really lugging for a two stroke.

Yes, it's the newest version with the gear on the fuselage. It weighs 11 lbs and the 2300 is the perfect engine for it. If you use a four stroke, you'll want a 180 and a bigger gas tank.

This plane is draggy enough for slower aerobatics than say an ultimate or the extra 300. It flies very scale-like and has no bad habits. The build was a pain, but well worth it in the long run.

That's right. But you wouldn't think of putting that prop on the 2300, would you?

Very nice paint job on the cowl and bellypan, and stripping on the canopy. Very sharp looking. I guess mine is the newer kit too. I got it about 5 months ago. Just had to ask about yours. I have a radial with about the power of a 1.20 4 stroke.

Do you know what prop it can swing? This plane really needs an 8 pitch to get the speed up for good penetration. Hopefully you can turn a 17-8, but a 16-8 will fly it okay.

I think a 15x8 or 16x8 would be okay. What prop are you using with your 2300?

Heck no. I would think the 15's 16's woud be a decent area you think?

I like the 16-10 the best. The 17-8 is good also, but not fast enough for me.

With my 14/8 and those rpms on this, I'm really pushing the limits and its just cruising along without a care in the world.

Well, finally I installed my home made onboard glow system on my extra 330. All I have to say is wow. Now I have good idle, good midrange, good transition and even more power. I test flew it today and did various maneuvers. The engine responded without any hesitation. Before this ¨ignition assisted system¨ I couldn't even maintain a knife edge because of a drop in rpms. I haven't tried yet any 3d flying but from what I saw today at the field, I'll be going that way pretty soon, I guess. I still am not sure about the battery I chose, which is a 2200 mah Nicd, maybe I'll switch to a larger capacity cell. More testing coming up.
