I believe anyone out there that has any time at all dealing with glow engines should give the 2300 a try. It is a very good engine for someone that knows how to set up and adjust a glow engine. The key here is you must know what you are doing or you will not be too happy. The more I think about it the better I like this engine.

I have some interesting news to report on my 2300. I have it setup in the stock configuration with the exception of a slimline pitts muffler. Running it on the 15% fuel no longer works. My high speed needle has no effect other than to lean it out ( and make it go too lean). I put some old 5% in it and went back to the 18-8 prop and the needle adjusts fine. I think it needs a tad more backpressure, as it leans out when held nose up, but you can richen it enough to compensate. I was seeing 7250 on my tach, with a good idle at 1800. Transition was fine, and all throttle positions run smooth. Tomorrow I plan on getting back in the air with it. Hopefully, no deadsticks!!

I couldn't get ahold of any 5%, but I found some 10%. It doesn't run worth a crap and the needle has no effect. Other than that, the barrel keeps galling in the bore and freezing up. The screw that goes into the metering slot has stripped. The midrange is again, terrible. I am abandoning this carb once and for all. Even if it didn't have the mechanical issues, which are an easy fix, it should run better than it does. I tried two different prop sizes and it made no difference.

Gonna try a Perry next.

My 2300s are still running great with the orginal carbs and slimline large volume pitts mufflers, 10% Omega fuel, either a Fox rc long or OS F plug. NO transition problems.

edited to change bisson to slimline - oops.

just tried my 2300 on a YT adrenaline 2m (still no maidened). It has about 2 litres on his back.
It has mounted with: perry pump, enlarged 3mm feed tubes, "JBA" 1.40 engine carburetor (very fine carb, ordered as spare part,it very very commonly used on G2300 here in Italy, it's just 16 euros), on board glow, original glow plug (to be swapped soon with a os F), tuned muffler (home made, composite construction, 60cm long) and cool power 30% (i had some lying around)
with the APC 18x6W it tached 9300 RPM!
next time i will try a more "standard" fuel, like 0% to 15% nitro

italian distributor of the chinese made JBA is www.biellaexpress.com , but i beleve there must be one in the USA since i believe ordering from it from usa would be overkill
My carb on the 2300 is actually this: http://www.biellaexpress.com/product/86/Carburatore-JBA-1.20AR-1.40AR.asp
Even without pump and other "upgrades", it makes tuning a breeze, really. Forget that midrange enrichment with original carb, forget long times passed to fine tune needles.. tuning the g2300 with that is a matter of seconds.. idle and low-to-high became wonderful, at once..
It only need a collar to adapt it. Original hole is 17mm and JBA O/D is 15mm if i remember well. I've made it done from a friend with a lathe.. a work of minutes..

here's some pics of the beast...

here's the composite "texalium" made tuned muffler.. it's an "old" work of our's best ironsmithers

Here you can also see the home made carbon-airex sandwich undercarriage 70 grams vs 270 of the original "sled" and stiffer too..

here's the home made manifold (copper exaust curve coupled with an aluminium tube). Note perry pump in this pic, next to the gas servo (an hitec 322). Notice also home made the vibration absorbing engine mount

and here's the final result

Hello,

I have a ST2300 that I plan to install in a spitfire from Willhobby. My engine is from italy and I was wondering if anybody tried to solve the different issues by following the different steps at: http://www.rcaerobats.net/STEng/st2300_barrels.htm
http://www.rcaerobats.net/STEng/Alan_modified_.htm
I was wondering if theses fixes also prevent the deadstick issues?

Thanks,

Le fou

le fou, it's a quite old trick, it worked, but since there's JBA carbs out, that trick worth no more.. put a jba carb (if in Italy we pay 16 euros, it costs maybe an half in the US since everything cost twice in europe ), believe me, it another world about tuning the engine... speaking of dead sticks, it's more of a Pump(above all)/bigger tubes/glow plug issue than the carb..

You will have the exact same results with the Magnum 91/1.08 carb from hobbypeople.net. This carb also needs a sleeve to adapt it to the engine, and it costs $37.

Just as a point of interest. I just purchased a new Bisson muffler and the first thing I noticed is that the openings in the exhausts are considerably smaller. This should help those who have had a problem. I've not fired it up yet to see the difference but I've not had a problem either. I'll post some pics when I can and I'll let you know what I find out.
