Just a thought and would appreciate any feedback. How about building a Backpack helicopter using 4- 150 cc model engines that can each pruduce up to 70-80 pounds of thrust each. I am aware of the dangers with all the concepts out there now as far as flying in high altitude but what about one that can just lift a person 5-10 feet off the ground so you could fly/hover around and only fall a few feet should engine failure occur. I'm thinking of building a prototype and would appreciate any knowledge/feedback on this subject. Also, if anyone is in the Los Angeles area and interested in taking a role in building it, let me know...two or three heads are better than one.

Hi very interested in this concept myself after seeing various ultralight attempts such as the japaneese Gen-h4 also an article in Leisure Flyer with a guy called Franz Schofmann (Austrian)taking to the air in an extremely minimal device (gladly let you have the pics) my version is still in the concept stage but would gladly share any thoughts and ideas.

You would need at least 100 feet (for safety) to clear the trees at least.
