Hey Wufnu,

You will get many opinions with this topic, some people say throw it all away and use "American" hardware.

Now, I don't know what "American" hardware is or why it's so good, because i'm almost finished building a Top Flite P-51 which is has "American" hardware in it an a lot of people replace it as well, so we will assume that they think "american" stands for a reputable name hardware manufacture...

I on the other hand used most of the supplied hadware. Here is the list of what i did.

Landing gear: already spoken about.

Control horns: compared them to Du-bro large horns i have here at home and much the same in terms of plastic rigidity and strength

Dowel rods: replaced the rudder with sullivan golden rod, and the elevator used the dowel rod but with 4-40 hardware.

Pushrods: replaced because they have a different thread to 2-56 and i couldn't get my metal clevis' on.

screws: used supplied

tank: used supplied

Wheels: way to small for scale and have du-bro 4" tires which weight heaps

Hinges: used supplied, but read below.

I have just stripped back the covering on the entire model and am preparing to kitbash it, and on removing the flight controls i simply pulled them off and was somewhat disturbed at the ease in which the hinges let go. i would recommend replacing these and i will be doing the sameduring the kitbash.

just my 2c and Hope this helps

thanks

Justin,,,, I have a completely differant subject question for you. Those Lipo transmitter batteries that Common Sense sells ???
Do you need a regulator to reduce them to 9.6 volt ? Or just how does that work ? I have several 3cell Lipos for a P38 and they are 11.1 volt. Just curious. But I do like the idea of flying several days on a single charge.

I don't work for them, I'm just on the support crew. Consider me more like a roady If you send them an email, though, they'll be able to tell you for sure. I don't want to tell you something and be wrong and since I've never bought a transmitter pack I think it's best if they tell you.

Making a "things I need" list for the 190, soon as I get the engine running like a top I'm gonna place my order.

About the LiPo transmitter batteries. I just got a Dualsky TX battery from Vampower http://www.vampowerpro.com for my transmitter. I had a NIMH 2500 mah battery that gave me long transmitter operating time, but weighed a ton. The new one weighs about half as much as my old one and seems to be working great for me. When it is fully charged, it shows 12.4 volts and I charge it in the radio through the normal charge jack with a LiPo charger. It has a built in cell balancer, so balancing from time to time should not be required. So far, so good...

I took over Rich Ross' 190. I swapped him a Seagull SuperStar that was given to me by a friend who I did some work for.

I decided that I wanted to paint mine like JG54 Eastern front. Paint work on fuse is done. Main wing construction is complete except for gear doors and finish painting. I have a Saito 180GK that I sent to Horizon for repairs that should be returning shortly that will go into this plane. Main wing incidence is on the money at 0-0.

Nice job Bob.

It looks great with that color scheme. Are you going to run a 180 in it?

Is everyone really using standard servos? I saw the question later and no one has talked about the servos they are using.

Since nothing about the requirements for the servos is in the manual what is everyone doing with their planes?

I'm using all metal geared hi-torque Futaba servos except throttle and flaps. Just because that's what I had on hand at the time.
I think it's always a good idea to at least use a metal geared servo on the rudder with anything over a 60 sized plane. Lot of stress back there.

I used HS-85mg servos for each aileron and flap, and then hitec 425's for everything but throttle. a hs-81 is perfect for that job.

thanks

Rifraff.. Loks nice!! I am getting mine ready right now. I got one from a friend on here(noflaps) who done a beautiful airbrush paint job in the richthofen squadron sceme along with split flap mods, and a glassed wing. Right now I am trying to find some struts that will work. The gear bays were extended to be more scale. Seems I need a 9" long strut with a 3/16 diameter. Any ideas?? Thanks
