I just received my Focke Wulf FW 190 from www.nitroplanes.com. http://www.nitroplanes.com/fofw9071scni.html I thought I would do a complete build so you guys can get a review of this plane.

I received the plane double boxed with no shipping damage. Upon opening it I found that everything was sealed in plastic. There was no instruction book, but a cd was included that had the instructions on it. Instructions are a bit lacking to say the least. If you have built a few kits or assembled a few ARFs you should have little trouble getting this plane in the air. All hardware appears to be included. I will decide if substitutions are needed as I get her assembled.

The fuselage is fiberglass with plywood formers and re-enforcement at critical areas. Panel lines are moulded into the fuselage and cowl.

The wings, horizontal stab, elevators and rudder are covered in what appears to be clear film and then painted. I guess that is what they call "pre-finished with a fuel resistant composite covering". I thought it was supposed to be covered in fabric, guess not.

I plan on adding a scale paint scheme to her since the one supplied is not even close to the correct colors. I have it narrowed down to a few different schemes that I will show later. A scale paint scheme will improve the scale appearance, but this is not a plane you want to compete in a scale contest with (except for event 520 Fun Scale).

After my initial inspection it looks to be a decent plane, especially for the money ($209 delivered). I do not think this plane is from a new manufacturer. It appears to be a CMP plane with different paint. Here are some links. Anyone with a CMP fw 190 let me know if this is the same plane.

It looks just like the CMP 190 I just compeleted.

The fuselage wood structure appears to have been changed a little but
other than that, it looks identical to the one I have.

The Fuselage looks very much like my CMP model. The paint would not be so bad if they just left off the dots?? At least it would be a good starting point.....

FlinVR or Broken, do you have pics of the inside of the fuse? Is the CMP version a foam core wing?

I'll get a few pics when I get home this evening.

Mine is a foam wing.

I did mod my wheel wells due to the use of robostruts. I had to fill in the original wheel locations and move the
wheel locations just a bit aft.

If you like this model and plane on keeping itnice for awhile, you'll have to remove the "shelf paper" the wings and stabs are covered with or you'll waste your time and paint painting that surface.

I have stripped the covering off my CMP 70" zero, 54" zero, and the Mosquito, I have unfortunately painted my 54" cmp P-51D and it comes off with the "light mask' tape.

At least out of the box your at the fun part of detailing.

Wait till the sun hits it for awhile. ouch!!!

I am hoping to overcome the paint issue with clear coat that is fuel proof to 12%...

Oh and gas instead of glow....

Good luck on the build,,,, if my great planes 190 ever goes in,, I am going to go for the cmp 190 version that your building,,,, so please keep us all posted...

I recently built the gsp/cmp p-40 70" http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2965010/mpage_5/key_/tm.htm which came with that same covering.... I would suggest that you change it now! I recovered the horizontal stab with flat monocote but didn't recover the wings due to the fact that the decals were factory applied. The wing covering sags in the sun, where as the monocote holds true... I went to Home Depot and colormatched, airbrushed the acrilic, and then cleared/fuel proofed with the topflight flat clear... so far so good. Also don't forget that all that paint and clear adds up to weight as well.... better off recovering so you dont add more weight by painting over the existing paint.

Also, I have found that the short nose 190's tend to be tail heavy.... might want to keep that in mind when placing the internals...

Best of luck

I am going to strip the covering and might glass it. I don't know what they were thinking when they painted shiny film covering. Did they expect it to stick? I was cutting the covering over the servo bays and the
