Ok guys, Tomorrow is going to be my first spad flight and I have a couple of questions on my radio. I read on other forums about people setting the " throws " on their radios. What does that exactly mean and how do you do that. On my radio there is a little sliding door that and beneath the door are a bunch of really tiny switches with numers and like two little screws with numbers on them and they each say " airl " or "elev". Can anyone help Oh yeah and i built my plane with a Debonair fuse. Is it possible if i could run a rear wheel on it and two in front.... instead of a front wheel and two in back. ???

Ok guys, Tomorrow is going to be my first spad flight and I have a couple of questions on my radio. I read on other forums about people setting the !QUOT! throws !QUOT! on their radios. What does that exactly mean and how do you do that. On my radio there is a little sliding door that and beneath the door are a bunch of really tiny switches with numers and like two little screws with numbers on them and they each say !QUOT! airl !QUOT! or !QUOT!elev!QUOT!. Can anyone help Oh yeah and i built my plane with a Debonair fuse. Is it possible if i could run a rear wheel on it and two in front.... instead of a front wheel and two in back. ???

it would help if you told us what radio you have... but here goes..
when we talk about !QUOT!throws!QUOT! we mean control throws, this means how much movement you have on each control surface,(alot of movement means sensitive, not alot of movement means insensitive) if you are a noob and this is your first flight then you don't want to have too much !QUOT!throw!QUOT! because your plane will be very sensitive(also if you are a noob and this is your first flight then seek an instructor to guide you and maiden your plane)

now, the !QUOT!little sliding door that and beneath the door are a bunch of really tiny switches!QUOT! the little switches are very probably the servo reverse switches...

before you fly your plane you need to make sure of the following

elevator when you pull your stick on the transmitter the elevator should move up
like wise when you push the elevator stick the elevator should move down...

with the ailerons(which are the controls on the wings) or !QUOT!ails!QUOT! when you move your aileron stick to the right. the right wing aileron should move up and the left aileron should move down

those are the two main controls to rigorously check, the rudder is not as important as you don't normally need to use that in straight and level flight...

now if you want to use !QUOT!2 front wheels and one back wheel!QUOT! (this is known as a tail dragger, two wheels at the back and one at the front is called a tricycle) you can do this. BUT you will have to move the the main wheels so that they are in front of the CG(center of gravity)

and also if you have a tail dragger it will be harder to land if you are a beginner.

hope this helps you
regards
James
(please note that i HIGHLY recommend that you seek an experienced pilot to help you with your first flight if you are new to this. If you cannot find an instructor/friend to help you then practice on a simulator if you can.... if neither of those 2 can be done... find your self a REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY BIG field with no hills, no people, no house, no nothing and fly there.)
GOOD LUCK

A throw is the movement of your aileron and elevator. There are recomended throws in the instructions that you built off of. Sometimes with a combat spad plan there isn't, when you've gotten to combat you'll know more is better and too much just snaps, it's more of a personal adjustment. You want to physically adjust your throws as close to the recomended values as possible. This means matching outer to inner holes on your servo to outer or inner holes on your conrol arms. Then you can fine adjust it with the dials on the back of your transmitter. The switches on the back change the direction that your servos travel.

And yes, if you want to build a taildragger instead of a conventional landing gear airplane you can do that as well. Rig it to stear with the rudder.

I hope you're meeting an instructor to help you fly the plane. Also, read the instructions that came with your radio. If its a computer radio, you can adjust throws with the transmitter. If its not, you may have to adjust your linkages to increase or decrease your throws. Remember that increasing the throws also increases the torque necessary from the servos to move the control surface. When all else fails, read the direction!

TO "H" "E" double hockey sticks with the instructions FLY FOR ALL YOU WORTH!!! MAKE YOUR MOMMA PROUD!! BE THE WIND BENEATH YOUR WINGS!!! FLY D$$#- IT FLY!!!

no really now you should get help if you have never flown before. It can be done without an instructor but it is rare to fly and land all by yourself on your first flight. you can do it but be ready for alot of heart ache and fixing....trust me I learned the hard way 3 times befor getting an instructor. However i did get better and better each time.

Heres to all you first timers that try to fly on your own for the first time.

On the way yo the field you look like this

As your flying you look like this

When your crashing you look like this

When it's all over you look like this

BUT GET AN INSTRUCTOR AND YOU USUALLY LOOK LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME

GIVER FULL THROTTLE YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

naw probly not but nothing anyone says here is gonna stop ya soooooooooooooo

YOU CAN DO IT
GIVER
GO NUTS
FULL THROTTLE
