Hey,

After searching for quite a while on the internet for a charger i've found that the majority are designed with a 12V DC input. I was just wondering why they dont incorporate a 110V AC input aswell. I know there are chargers out there which do have inputs for both, but most dont. I can also understand why you would use DC (for instance if your out) and I know you can buy power supplies for using in your house. However there must be some other reason for not having an AC input; isnt there?

Please post your opinion.

It is a cost issue. AC chargers (or their transformer wall wart) must have UL approval to be sold in the US. This is fairly expensive to obtain and your product must go though UL testing.

Yet there are a few that are not, how they get away with it is still a mystery, no doubt a political pay off involved somewhere.

Ahhh always wondered if it was a cost issue (electrionics side) how other companies could have them for such cheap.

Thanks for insight
