Status: offline 		Has anyone split the ailerons on the Katana in half? (aileron-outboard+flaperons-inboard)
If so how did it perform?
Are the ailerons built up foam-planked or balsa rib-plank construction?

Status: offline 		The ailerons are built up and then planked so it might be a little rough to do. Also why would you want to do this? If you just want to play around with crow mixing you really don't need it. There wont be any issues with it slowing down and you will lose performanc since the ailerons are now half the size as before.

Status: offline 		You actually wouldn't lose any aileron control surface area. When not in crow mode the flaps work with the ailerons. We did this in sailplanes all the time. The reason we did it there is because the airfoils are so efficient that crow mode is the only good way of dumping energy quickly. Without crow on a sailplane it would be very difficult impossible to hit your time and your mark.

I think I agree with Mark though. I'm not sure having crow mode or even just flaps on landing would make a huge difference on a katana though. I guess it couldn't hurt though as it would slow it down some and not increase the risk of tip stalling it.

Status: offline 		Maybe just put a bigger prop with less pitch would slow down the landings. May also give better hover abilities. Not sure thow.

Thanks for the info,

What I want to do is split the aileron so each half of one side is on a separate servo.
With this I have, 2 receivers, 2 power regulators and batteries.
I have seen one servo lock up and held the surface in one spot with the other servo fighting the bad one.
This caused the receiver to go into low power failsafe???? and caused a crash. Granted he had a small receiver battery.
I am trying to eliminate one more possible failure.
Side benifits is different expo on the outboard surfaces verses the inboard surfaces.
I have HS5955TG servos on the surfaces, with dual Fromeco reg and dual 7.4 4000mah lipo batteries for power.
