Default Mods for H9 PTS Mustang

What mods would most suggest for the H9 PTS Mustang? I have recieved mine today, but will be beefing the fuse and tail structure a tad before flight. Any suggestions?[sm=confused.gif]

There's a 47 page thread on the plane

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_31...tm.htm#3102050

If you wade through the arguments about whether it is a trainer or not, there is a good bit of info from people who have flown the plane.

I was hoping to avoid wading thru 47 pages of "It's not a trainer" "YES IT IS!"....

It's a worthwhile read, believe me. I picked up quite a few useful nuggets of info on that thread (some in the trainer vs. not trainer argument). Still learning from it.
You might even do searches for specific information within the thread.

Twister,
Skip to about the 3rd page of posts. Thats when it really starts to get interesting.
You can actually speed through fairly quickly. Most of the mods have pictures with em.

I dug through it today, and copied what I needed into a word document. I'm going to put all the suggestions on this thread tommorrow.

My goal is to have all the good suggestions listed here, and then forward the whole shebang to Hangar 9, in the hopes they fix some of this stuff on the assy line!

i got one last summer and if it wasnt for my past experience with planes i would have killed it into the ground. i went ahead and bought another one and put it in my attic for future use. i plan on buying about two of them every year for the next several years or until they quit making them. this is for my own private stash. i have alot of others that i just buy and put away, like the new pnp piper cub by hangar 9. i've got more planes now than i got teeth.

By popular demand!

H9 P-51 PTS AFC-001

MODIFICATION TO FUSELAGE WING SADDLE POINT / REINFORCEMENT OF.

PURPOSE: To eliminate/reduce Unicote wrinkling and fuselage buckling at wing saddle area.

TECHNICIAN: 1 AM

HAZMAT REQUIRED: 30 MIN EPOXY

DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Remove Wing assy.
2) Remove Reciever lower support
3) Remove foam filler
4) Remove RX Battery pack. (At this time, it is adviseable to replace the 600maH pack with a better pack, at least 1500maH!)
5) Cut balsa to 4 6" lengths and split 2 into 2" wide planks
6) Dry fit 4" wide planks to fwd area of fuselage as shown in picture and mark for clearance; remove and cut at clearance mark. Sand edge for smoothness. Using 30 min epoxy, glue in place on pt/stbd sides.
7) Dry fit 2" wide planks in center and aft of wing saddle area and mark for clearance as shown in picture. Remove and cut at clearance mark. Sand edge for smoothness. Using 30 min epoxy, glue in place on pt/stbd sides.
8) Reinstall RX battery, foam filler, and RX group lower support.
9) Install wing assy, checking for clearance.
10) Return to service

As I go along on mine, I will be adding updated "AFC's" on this thread; please feel free to add structural changes to this thread, but keep the other comments out. I am trying to build this thread solely for a quick reference for PTS owners!

Now upon popular request....my wing saddle reinforcement pic. remove foam/ batteries/ Rx, and you can see where it will glue to. I used 30 min. epoxy

Thanks to Nightmare for this suggestion!

There is so much to learn from that post
Thanks Twizter68 for starting this thread. I wanted to contribute my little part as others have helped me with my "Noob" questions.

P.S. I only linked posts with pictures as for a new person like myself it helps me understand what you guys actually are talking about.

I'd like to add something!
While the radio equipment is out during the stiffening of the fuselage side after the supports are in go ahead and fuelproof the exposed wood.

Also there was an early post somwhere in the thread where someone painted there's. Could they or someone else explain how/what they did?
