Reading the reviews, it would appear that this new radio technology eliminates the need for use of frequency boards, pins, worrying about "which channel you are on".

This particular radio is specifically designed for park flyer stuff, but no doubt we are within months of a system(s) for all RC aircraft.

Very basics as I understand the system:

-The system operates way above 72MHz range (2400MHz) so interference with current systems is not going to happen.

-Each radio has a unique "Guild" (Global Unique Identifier) that is defined by an international agreement protocol to ensure same.

-There are 80 available channels in the 2.4Ghz (2400MHz) realm

-A quick, simple proceedure is used to initially "Bind" the receivers to your radio, thus knowing which radio to obey.

-At the flying site, simply turn on your radio. The radio begins a search for the first unused channel in the 2.4GHz range and locks/begins transmitting on it. This automaticallyl stops all other 2.4GHz systems from operating on that frequency.

- Once one channel is locked, the radio then searches for a second unused channel and locks onto the 2nd channel as well. Thus the system has a redundancy built in and will not function until it has two of the 80 channels exclusively "locked down". (receivers actually have 2 antennas)

-Good to go, no need to fuss over who's on what channel because it's not possible to be on the same channels. In the unlikely event that all 80 channels are in use, the system just keeps searching until one is open and will not function till acheived.

- Radio interference is a non-factor with these systems losing one of the biggest BS lines used by dumb thumbs.

Anyway, this new technology looks great and it will likely be all we see in the future.

Question to any MAAC BOD's out there. Any investigation by committee/board as to what this means for the association and related policy?

Clubs should be aware of this technology and have some understanding as I can forsee some impound arguments due to lack of understanding coming real soon.
