Kelly's version of mounting the fins works very well, I highly recommend it.

Angus.

Hey Kelly, are you building a trailer yet? did you get my pictures?

Caliber, email sent. Send any questions my way if you wish!

(sorry to temporarily skew this thread here)
Angus, nope... nothing started on the trailer yet. I was out at Princess Auto yesterday looking at all the hardware though. I'm going to throw a few things together in Solidworks and see if I cna't get something going for the summer though. I need it if I'm planning to hit the Calgary jet rally! I got your email on the 3rd, with 3 photos. Thanks! Looks good, but I'm thinking about something lower profile than that, and with larger tires. I'd dig into it more now, but I've got my P Eng certification exam coming up...

Kelly

Hi guys.

I PM'ed all the guys here, and the guys who responded, didn't have the instructions. (It's an old thread) But, after searching the web for an hour... I found the original Gaupner instructions... and a very nice "Un-Official" set of instructions. I'm not sure if they are Bob's or not... but they are very professional.

They are attached, a few posts below.

pdf's are a supported upload on RCU, why not post a set of instructions on the thread then they will be available to all.

Just a suggestion.

Mike

Air Tech still produce the Hot Spot in Germany!
The kit is very well made, nice moulding and the wing has a reflex section now so that the up trim doesn't notice!

That's if anybody wants one!

(Still love mine)!

George: I've always like the looks of them... and I tried to buy a Rookie. BUT... CARF has been out of stock since last year. After I get it flying... I'm going to add a vector thrust unit.

Mike: I'll see what I can do to up-load them. (never tried to put a file on here)

JT: Thanks. I thought they were out of production for a long time. http://www.air-tech.info/html/frame.html

Tony and All,
The "Unofficial HOT SPOT Instructions" are indeed written by Bob Wilcox.  I followed them, along with the Grauper instructions, on mine- with some minor mods.
I chose to mount the elevon servos with the linkages existing the top of the wing- saves gears and linkages on a gear-up landing.  I also buried thin-wing servos in the fins with direct linkage to the rudders- use a JR Matchbox or equiv.  to link the rudders and nose gear steering.  My landing gear is from Robart, specifically made for the HS with Trim wheels and brakes.  Be sure to get your gear for the HS to provide the correct ground stance for proper takeoffs and landings- the Kangeroo/Rookie gear is too short.  Also, build wheel wells to prevent the air stream from entering the wing cavity and ripping off the lower, rear sheeting-which is fatal to the airframe. Finally, adjust the elevons for reflex as stated in Bob's instructions- the newer wing sections have the reflex designed in and no up trim is required.  His recommended CG is correct but you can vary it to suit your flying style.
Good luck with this vintage jet.

Not that difficult obviously I will thank you even though I did not want them, but it seemed to be a recurring request on here, well done Tony.
