The 4500 is much stronger than a BGX 3500. There is something wrong with your 4500. Because the 4500's I have seen run were extremely powerfull. I remember watching one pull a giant stinger with unlimited vertical. Performance seemed to be better than a G-62. I don not remember if it had 20-10 or 22-8. Put it was a large prop and the engine appeared to pull extremely hard. It allways landed deadstick (out of fuel). Are you running a Large ST blend of fuel (reduced oil %). If you are not, try it. The engine will run 300% better. The large ST seam to over comress with the added oil, and run like Sh**. My 3000 turned a 18-8 over 8,000, and that was the engine made to compete with the BGX, and The Moki's.

I'll do my best to help you, but first you need to write a lengthy background of your experience with this engine. Is it new or used? Is it broken in? Has it been flown? What does it do? What have you tried? Things like that. Otherwise, everyone will have an opinion and be shooting in the dark.

It is used. Came with free plane only $300. It shows no sign of being hot (blackness or bluing). I have had it running but it gets a little hot and the bolt on the pump moves. Just got it and wanted to start at what settings someone else has theres running at. This is the largest engine i have ever had and first pump. by the way the pump is the one that runs on crankcase pressure.

By the way I am running wildcat s-tigermix 5%.

I have a st.51 using a 10x6 prop. The engine starts reliably, idles excellently and runs great at WOT.

BUT , it's heavy ,and the mid range on the engine needs work. It doesn't flame out but really starts to stutter a little past half open throttle. I also notice it isn't a powerful engine like my OS engines are. IE my os .46 packs more punch than the st 51.

Has anybody had a problem with the mid range and what are you doing to solve this fix the problem ?

I ran 6 different .50 sized engines, in each case I used Fox 5% nitro fuel with 20% castor lube and a Graupner 12x5 prop. TNC Tach.

MDS .48=====11,111, less than 1 hours time on it. Stock C-1 7.5mm carb
Fox .50======12,191 Fox EZ just 8.5mm carb
Enya 50CXTN==13,009 Stock 7.5mm carb
Webra .50====13,181 Stock 8.00mm carb

nice experiment , but most engine need 15% nitro to really perform like my OS .25, .40, .46, .....I run my OS .70 on 5% nitro and it performs just great.

I will try a bigger prop on my st .51 soon as I finish breaking it in while flying.

A 10 x 6 prop would be considered small for that engine. That's partly why the midrange isn't right. We normally run an 11 x 6 or 7 APC and see RPM between 12K and 13K

I run 15% Omega in my .61 ring, .51 ring and .40 ring with no problems. Excellent engines. Good pricing. The .61 gave me a few deadsticks until I realized that these engines (ringed) need a longer breakin time. Give'um a gallon or two and you'll see a difference.

By the way, a brandnew 2300 and a brand new Italian .90 are sitting on the bench.

I will say one thing negative- that junky baffle always comes loose in my mufflers!!!!!!
