Can anyone give me a clue as to which gas powered helicopter is supposed to be the best as far as quality and flying ease? I would appreciate any and all comments and recommendations on this subject.

Heya, ChinookJockey!

I can speak only concerning the Vario Benzins. Flying ease is a result of build selections and setup. For example, my Benzin ships are running 81cm blades, 910mm tail set, extended main shaft, 4-way CCPM, and a G230RC with a tuned pipe. My paddles are weighted and my curves are adjusted so that the birds "fly like a truck." Very docile, yet the G230RC's have plenty plenty plenty of power, so it's not really "sluggish."

On the other hand, you can (I'm sure you're aware of this) configure a Benzin for aggressive 3D with different main drive gearing, blades, etc.

I've found the quality of the Vario parts to be impressive and recommend them without reservation.

However, parts supplies are sometimes a bit trying...my dealer told me that the factory had a flood or some such, and I waited for months for additional 805mm blades...finally had to go with another manufacturer's 810's. Also, I had problems (no mental giant, I) understanding their parts presentation...for example, the only way I found out they had two different lengths of main shafts was to note that I had received two different lengths. One of my CCPM ships showed up with a non-CCPM bottom plate. Another showed up with two different side plates (one had round holes, one had oval). These are anecdotal in the long run, of course.

Also, parts on eBay are few and far between, save the Futaba, JR, and Zenoah components. I love eBay. Ahem.

Good luck in the move to GAS!

I had a carbon tunned pipe that broke. I tried a pipe that came with my vario xtreme kit OS91-SX and works beautiful. I was really impressed. Leave the nipple from the pressure tank open. Looks ****en too...

Go Bergen for the best performance, customer service and power to weight ratio.

Malore,

And where is your collective stick?

Also on your description you have stated it is a zenoah G26.
Is it the 26 or the 23?

Just curious.

Thanks

It is the G26.
Gee, maybe the pitch is in the negative range. Are you implying it flys heavy? This machine weighs in at only 12lbs with nearly 3hp running 710mm blades at +10 1/2 to -10 1/2 degrees of pitch at 1750 RPM without any signs of bogging down. All I can say is you have no idea just how well it flys. I'll just say that the only way I'll pull out the 60 anymore is if I put this machine in. Nobody should be allowed to haave this much fun on about $0.17.

Malorie (One happy Gasser flyer)
