Sorry but I used this method for my Revo against the instructions and had no problems. Then I used it for my Picco .21 MAX and my OS .18. I just used it on my new Hellfire and had no problems at all. Now I've started using it on my Savage X. My RC store guy recommends it and so does the guy he sponsers. To each his own. But please use the instructions I don't want to be responsible for voiding your warrentees. How would they know anyway?

Judging from your videos your stuff looks like it's running at tip top. You need to come down here to VA and and heat cycle my Savage X. I'm too chicken to mess it up.

I just purchased a Savage X from my local hobby shop $385 i couldnt pass it up. It doesnt give me wood like the hellfire but i cant afford $600 for that. Anyrate after breaking in with 2 tanks and putting around the backyard it slowly started to come to life. stronger and stronger. ITS ALIVE!!! After tuning it to my liking i decided i would unleash it on my street. I was surprised on the top speed with the 2 speed trani. when it hit second gear and the front end raises up like a proud lion i cant help but smile like a silly monkey. This Truck is anything short of amazing. I did have one problem stripped the spur gear after 4th tank. I didnt check the factory mesh and well with the power this thing has its no wonder its ripped to shredds.

Second day running took it to the riverbed near my house. There are alot of motorcycles and huge 10' berms( if thats how ya spell it) i was launching off the top and i couldnt belive how much of a beating it took and kept on going. kart wheeles end over end more t hen 10 flips each.... landing on one corrner hard, nothing is bent, broken, ok well its scratched

Paso, finally what we've been waiting to hear. I should have mine here tomorrow, hopefully it's a decent day. I think it's supposed to warm up through the week and if it does I'll for sure have mine out. I think day before yesterday it was 19 below out without the wind chill, right close to 40 below with. I think by the end of the week it's supposed to be back up in the 40's though so I should be able to go out and play.

Sure does seem nice not to have 88 pages of broken parts and wide open throttles doesn't it J ? I know I won't hesitate to get a metal spur gear (I know my RC guy has them in stock too)if I break the plastic one because it's probably an upgrade I'll be getting anyway.

I'm heading to the OTHER LHS about an hour or so away for the battery. I may just go ahead and get the spur gear to have when I blow out my original. Sounds like it's going to happen. With all of the changes and upgrades to this truck you would thik that HPI would have covered at least the spur gear.

It's snowing ...It better stop by the time I get back. I'm gonna crack if I don't start breaking in this X.

mosavage...can you elaborate on your setup there with the collarii .32? I'm particularly interested in the clutch setup you have and how that lined up with the stock spur gear, mesh, etc.

Thanks!

HOOO Ahhhhh! Paris Island Ay? Did you do mechanic work? Dang right it's hot here brother...I'm thinking I'll need to get this cooling fan by the dog days of August: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6028988724&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

UMMMM 55 South Carolina. I was there once, right outside a town called Beaufort. It was June, July & August 1966 hotter than hell. We weren't allowed to wear shorts back then, being toughened up to go where it was even hotter than SC. You know now that I think about it, I don't think I liked your state very much! LOL. Couple new pics. Does anybody remember having to take rolls of film to have it developed? I kind of miss my 35mm cameras and the $100s spent on processing pics that didn't come out, just to have 2 or 3 publishable.

PASO...AWESOME to hear this...this is why I bought the Savage X!!!

So...can we get a general consensus as to the best replacement STEEL spur gear setup for the Savage X? I know I posted this before, but is this what y'all are thinking too:

El Moffles...got it broken in yet man? I think Bill's recommendation is what I'm going with for Break In

Well...the story continues. The OTHER LHS was carryng the same deal. Long leads and too damn stiff to bend into the battery housing. On my depressed way back It came to me... Radio Shack. Sure enough they had one...ten bux. I've got it charging now so should be all set in a few hours. That LHS was lame too...they are all about planes trains and a few automobiles for decor purposes. I'm gonna just do my shopping on line.

It looks good to me ashburg...I'm pretty newb though so I'll wait for more advice before ordering it.

Justin...I don't understand why your stock setup wouldn't work...you're talking about the roto start right? I just want to be clear, because my savage x is probably on my doorstep at this very moment...and I want to be totally prepared for what I'm up against.

Do you have a part number for the radio shack part you bought?

Bill, It's very nice. Did you have a chance to get out anymore yet? I'll have mine tomorrow hopefully. I'm anxious to even just get it out of the box.

Ash, did yours show up today? You gonna start on it right away, or run it stock for a while?

Yes, I'm talking about the Roto Start. Don't forget that unless you already have one you will need a 7.2v battery and charger. I didn't have one cuz my MT2 SS is a pullstart.

First i bought this for $10.00

http://www.racers-edge.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=22934&cat=324&page=1

The chord was way to long to stuff into the battery compartment. So...after a song and dance I found this at Radio Shack...works great. Was an open box buy. The guy sold me just the battery for $10.00. The entire pack charger and battery is like 24.00.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062121&cp=2032056.2032147&allCount=12&fbn=Type%2FRC+vehicle+batteries&f=PAD%2FProduct+Type%2FRC+vehicle+batteries&fbc=1&parentPage=family

The battery pack from Radio Shack had a much shorter chord and the chord was very flexible. Fits nicely. I'll be breaking it all in tomorrow.

I wrapped my cooling head with foil and got about 15 minutes of breakin this afternoon before my son went into work at walmart. It's supposed to warm up more as the week goes on. I'll get more time on it tomorrow maybe at work but I'm changing my Hellfire over to run on my JR XS3 FM radios. I think I'm going to pick up another JR receiver for the SavageX

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRPRS31075

These are synthesized receivers. They don't use crystals, I just put a little plastic like screwdriver in it and dial the frequency. I have one of each of these radios:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRP337275
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRP317275
I can program up to 10 trucks on each. I've got my Nitro 4 Tec, Picco.21TMAXX, 2.5r TMAXX and rc18t with the brushless on them
