If you have a Savage X, if you are thinking about getting a Savage X, or if you have any known tips, tricks, upgrades, or other information pertaining to the new 2006 Savage X, come on in and comment!

I currently have a warhead, but I want to get one of these Savage X's that everyone's raving about.

Post your videos, pictures, and how-to's!

Lata!

Just got done ordering my new X. Should be here on Friday or Saturday hopefully, we'll see. After all the warhead crap, I'm anxious to get a MT that runs for more than a tank at a time. Has anyone got their X and tried it out yet? From the history of the savages, the upgrades on the X, and the availability of aftermarket parts, this should be a real good strong running truck.

I did my homework and to my understanding there is aLOT of interchangeability. The Savage X is what I decided to spend my $$ on. I can bash all I want and break way less than the warhead, for one. Check out the www.slapmafro.com videos...they are running savages in some of those vids.

Here's a post I found on another thread that pertains to compatibility and what the new Savage X brings to the table:

Here's the list of upgrades you could do to your 21,25,SS and 4.6 to get X status.

Compatibility!
Careful attention has been paid to maintain the tradition of Savage aftermarket support. Most of the new Savage X features are compatible with the long list of Savage aftermarket parts already available, and older Savage trucks can be upgraded to most of the exciting new parts found on the Savage X.

Savage X parts that will fit on past Savage trucks:
Transmission Case (easier to remove)
Differential Housings* (front and rear)(easier to remove)
Shock Towers (additional shock locations)
Suspension Arms (lighter)
Radio Box (easier access)
Slipper Clutch (dual pads plus rubber dampening)
Savage X Chassis Plates* (lowered CG)
F4.1 Engine
* May require a few extra parts for conversion

Parts carried over from past Savage trucks:
Internal Differentials
Internal Transmission
Dogbones
Driveshafts
Brake
Axles
Exhaust
Uprights
C Hubs
Body Posts
Body Position
Engine Mount & Plate
Servo Saver
Shocks and Springs

Savage X parts that will NOT fit on past Savage trucks:
Alloy Roll Hoop
Spur Gears (hardened steel gears will fit with new inner hub)
Polycarbonate Receiver Cover

If you're concerned about spur gear wear, get the Robinson Racing steel spur gear combo 16/48

The Savage has clearly evolved with the new savage x

I believe that should read "Savage parts that will not fit on the Savage X:" because the old Savages have aluminum roll bars and optional Lexan radio box covers.

At the SMF Store, we've got orders in for the new X roll bar, radio box, bulkheads, and a bunch of other new stuff, along with the Savage X itself. Can't wait to get it in stock and check it out!

Its a single speed, no reverse, bred for racing beast! Turns on a dime, wheels grow to almost 1/2 again their size when you tromp on the throttle. It's not made for running on the blacktop, this bad boy needs a track or the dirt roads at the fairgrounds my son and I were at today. The only upgrade I'm doing I have right here in front of me, I'm putting in a JR DS8611A servo to replace the steering servo that came with it.
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRPS8611A
I haven't had any problems with mine but there have been complaints from some who I guess don't know how to use the dual rate steering control and they're stripping the plastic gears in the stock servo.
In case you can't tell I've been dying to to tell you guys about this but couldn't in the other forum. Buff and quickster have Hellfires too
I'll belong in thisforum in 2 weeks or less. If I don't sell my 2 EMAXXes(selling both for $450), I'll just buy an X outright. The motor isn't as big as the 4.6HO in the Hellfire, but I can deal with it.

That's basically why I got the Savage X, Mr. Bill...I miss bashing! Don't get me wrong, I like the warhead, it's fun to work on and all (and makes an excellend brackett drag racer ), but you know

I'm putting an HPI Black Ribbed (for her pleasure ) pipe on my Savage X - the one I bought for the warthead...'nuff torque in it already.

Did the Hellfire come with the same exhaust option as the savage x - that cone silencer thing?

Well, my truck won't be here till Monday, maybe Tuesday but there's a lot of snow on the ground right now so I guess that's OK. If I had it now I'd probly be out sliding around in the snow, and I'm guessing that's probly not the best way to break it in.

Bill, there's nothing we can do about those bearings, hunh? Do savages have any type of bearings on the servo savers?

Nothing my RC guy can come up with about the bearings. The Hellfire came with a steel pipe. I have a Fantom Race Engineering Steel Pipe on my Picco .21 TMAXX. Heres what they say about steel pipes
quote:

steel resonates better than aluminum, which makes the pressure pulses in the pipe stronger, providing for a better “supercharging” effect of the gases being forced back into the combustion chamber. Next, and most important, steel holds the heat in a pipe better than aluminum does. A hotter pipe is more effective in the scavenging process that a 2-cycle engine goes through, or in simple terms, a hotter pipe helps an engine burn fuel more efficiently, ultimately providing you with more horsepower and better fuel mileage

If you look at the picture, you can see this guy is all business. If you've never seen a profile pic here ya go, please forgive the dirt, thats what happens when you give it a work out and there's a little mud in the area. It'll get clean when I put the new servo in tomorrow. Notice how low it is, those tires and wheels are standard MT size. Have to really work hard to turn it over.

Savages come with unflanged plastic bushings, but they're easily replaced with 6mm x 10mm bearings. See the super-long Warhead thread for more info and a link. The Warhead appears to use 4mm x 8mm flanged bushings in its servo saver, we're going to try some 4x8 flanged bearings on a Warhead next week to see if they work in place of the bushings.

Will the OS .30 VG bolt up to the Savage X and would it be of benefit to do that since the stock savage x motor is supposedly smokin' anyway?

The Savage X engine is a slightly upgraded S-25 from the Savage 25. Decent engine, but not smokin' I don't believe. The engine in the Hellfire is a higher-output version of the K4.6 (.28) that's in the Savage SS 4.6, which IS a smokin' motor!

If you want to leave that O.S. in your Warhead, I know where you can get a nice, new Picco .27 or Collari .32 to push that new Savage X of yours...

That Hellfire is magnificent!!!!

I almost bought one but picked the Revo instead. I know know that I would have rather had the Hellfire now... It's a straight up 1/8 scale truggy with 3HP and MT wheels and tires!! lol I love it! It is going to Dominate Unlimited MT classes this summer just watch. I'm going to have to put my Revo on a crackhead diet and pumpt it full of steroids to keep up with it. I saw a couple race a few weekends ago. They where stock out of the box not really even broken in and they where running at the front of the Expert Unlm. MT class Coolest looking truck through the whoops and in the air no kidding...

Put an OS.18 in that Revo I have one of those too and I can't touch it on blacktop* with the Hellfire(its really close though). My son and I were running them both and they get exact fuel milage for the tank sizes. I do have to admit though, I think it's going to be tough to compare them on the track when it comes to handling. I love them both! Now if they come out with some Bowties to fit the Hellfire (I'm sure they'll have HPI dirt bones if not Bowties).......

OS.18 Revo wheelie http://www.rcpics.net/img/73529

*The thing with the Hellfire though is it isn't made for that long straightaway high speed with it's single speed.

Who has an "X" in their posession right now? Can we see some pics? Do I want one or do I want another Revo. What I'm looking for is what I was looking for when I got the WarHead, a truck that a guest can use and race when they come to visit my house for cookouts this year. Something thats not going to take me away from me having my fun. I have good size cookouts and it's not unusual for there to be enough guys including my 4 sons (21, 23, 25, 27 two have Revos) to take 8 trucks and go race them at a makeshift track. I have plenty of those little pylons you can buy at walmart to set a course in the dirt, grass & dirt driveways at the empty fairgrounds here.
