Hi guys, i'm kind of in a little dilemma. I just placed an order for 5 HS-5945MG from Servo City before i found out that they were being replaced by the HS-5985MG. Should i call back Servo city back and cancel the 5945's order and order instead the 5985's. There for the 73" QQ yak 54. I know the 5985's weigh a little more and will last longer. They are both the same price right now which i though was odd being that the 5985 are improved. Not sure what to do, can anyone help me make this mind shattering decision .
thank you.

Here is the info on the 5945's - http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-5945mg_digital_torque.html

Here is the link on the 5985's - http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-5985mg_servo.html

No reason to think they'll last longer... I'd PERFER the 5945's over the others... Lighter, more torque... Great servo...

These are essentially the same servo less the bushed case cap top... The 5945's will work admirably it’s your call.

I wanted this servo for the rudder of my QQ 73" Yak, but they shipped them all to horizon, so I used a 5955 instead. The rest of the plane is using the cheaper 5645 servos and they work great.

I guess the new 5985's are improved, but not enough to warrant a price increase, hmmmm. Anyway, still kind of undecided if i should get the new and improved version of the 5945's. I like that the 5945's are lighter which would help with the cg especially on the QQ 73" yak which i hear comes out tail heavy. well we will see, still have time to decide, but not much. thanks.

Hard to say for sure??? How old is the servo? What kind of model? What specifically is the servo doing, wondering after resting or?

Michael,

The servo is on an aileron in a 27% extra. It does not have many flight (less than 30). When you turn it on, it just wonders slightly. It does not happen on the other one, just that one. Any ideas?

Michael,

Does the 5985 use any Karbonite gears? or is it strictly a case and bushing change?

thanks, Ward

It does use the new M/K first gear which is metal (inner) Karbonite(outer) which replaced the M/P gear (metal/plastic). We've had zero failures of the M/K gears which have been being used in the Titanium geared servos so not to worry!
Mike.

Hi Mike,

I remember when the Karbonite first came Hitec did not reccomend to use them on large scale models. On the 5985 you now have replaced the old MP gear with a Karbonite - Metal gear.

Why is Karbonite now "good enough" to use for servos in large scale models?

The improvement mechanically on the 5985 vd 5945 looks good but I wonder about the Karbonite part of it...
