Ken,
There don’t appear to be any Instrument Panel or Cockpit kits for 1/5th and ¼ Wacos. I believe there is a modern IP (Waco Classic/Super) kit for the 1/3rd but I can’t find the web address. You might check the Genesis thread. No Waco panels are listed in Proctor (Barth), AMRI (Genesis), Tony Clark, Dynamic Balsa, and U.S. Cockpits web sites.
The modern IP is a three panel setup and the instruments and associated avionics can vary greatly from plane to plane depending on the owner’s preference. The 1987 Waco YMF Classic, NC 14081 (no. 5) had the most up to date equipment at the time. Photos of other YMFs show different setups.
Construction of a modern IP for a Waco would not be difficult with the Propag instruments. A good photo of the three panels to select the instruments from and order, cut the 3mm (1/8th) panels a little oversize (trim to fit on installation), drill the holes, paint, assemble any radio faces fit the instruments and other panel parts (switches, fuses, etc) and install. It will take time to do and may not be the cheapest way to do it.
Another way is to make a drawing or a good photo and resize it to fit each panel and glue into position, probably the cheapest way to get an IP.
NC 14081 has a totally upholstered cockpit that covers all stringers, wires and stuff. Thin foam covered with some thin vinyl, cloth or paper could work.
P1 Scale modern IP, builder/source unknown P2 IP in NC 14081 P3 Drawing of center panel by an RCU member, sorry, can’t remember who.

Well here is my fiberglass work, came out good except the fairing for the pull/pull cables. I used 3oz cloth for the main piece and 3/4 oz for the fairing and it ripped when I pulled it off so it will need repair. I am going to lay in another layer on the inside and repair the fairings. Here are a couple pics.

Thanks John, I am going to make a seperate fairing for the tail wheel. Need to carve out a balsa plug. I rough marked the luggage compartment and the access panels on the front of the fuse and layed up two layers of fiberglass. I will mark out the final shape of the panels on the fiberglass before removing it from the plane then cut the shape, I will then transfer the shape onto the plane and that should give me some nice fitting hatches. I will use piano hinges and rare earth magnets to secure the hatches.

Ken, Anthony, Guys, both of these WACO's are looking sweet . Too bad the chance of them both being at the same place at the same time are pretty slim . Still hope to see Ken's later this year.
Ken, I am days late with this, but, thanks for the info on the polyester. When you make it to buy some more and match up what you already have, I sure would like to here what you learned about thickness, weight, thread count, or what ever. Even though I will not use it on my next couple projects (solartex is already bought) I am very interested in using this material in the future. Like maybe on my 1/5 WACO. I'd also be interested in hearing how you made your pinking tape with the solartex.

I didn't do anything more to the Waco today, suffering from Waco burnout. Will work on the plane a little through the week and go back after it this weekend. Anthony

Rick, I could tell you very easy he used pinking shears and cut strips wide enough to cover the rib cap. You can buy a nice pair at any place that deals with clothing material (JoAnns) is one. I also would have to admit that you are doing a very nice job on your plane Ken keep up the good work.

Rick, I went yesterday to Jo Ann's fabrics to buy a payback (4 yards) and 3 yards x 44" of polyester material for me. I exactly matched what I was using. I think they had only 2 different weights but they were very similar. Many colors though. Be sure to buy 100% polyester so that you have the shrink properties that you need. It was only $2.99 per running yard. It looks just like Sig Koverall.
The photos show pinking sheers used to cut Super Coverite. It's about the same stuff as Solartex. I used Solartex to cover my Super Decathlon and my Bucker Jungmeister. Solartex is great stuff. Minwax Polycrylic would be a good top coat for Solartex.
