Khodges used it on his 1/5 scale and it turned out nice, figured I would give it a try. I also picked up some heavy duty poster board with a grid pattern printed on it, I will use that to make templates. The poster board is very close to the same thickness, once I get the templates fitted I will then transfer them to the ply. I will post some pics when finished.

I have a good friend driving to all the way from Deleware tomorrow to visit and fly R/C planes for a few days. I got him into flying a few years ago and he has become a real nut and has a half dozen planes now. Anyhow I thrw the Waco back together so I can show it off to him when he arrives. I have applied 2 of the ply panels. One in the cockpit area and the other on the bottom of the fuse from the wing saddle to the firewall. The plane is now in primer and is starting to look like a Waco. I can't wait to see how it looks all dressed out in the color coats.

It's sure looking good Anthony.

It's almost dark enough. I think I'll step outside and fly my night flyer foamie.

I am getting my Corsair ready to go and my 1/4 scale Cub, I have yet to fly this summer and plan to make up for it over the next 4 days. Weather permitting we will be burning up the skies Thursday thru Sunday. My buddy is bringing out 2 new planes to maiden as well as the rest of his fleet so we will have plenty of planes to fly.
I have a 50 acre sod farm 1/2 mile down the road from my house that we fly from, where the sod has just been stripped make a perfect runway. My buddy has an electric Hellcat and we will be putting ribbons on the planes and doing a little combat, we tried last year and he flew into the ground trying to avoid me cutting his ribbon
Later!!

That sounds like you two are going to have a lot of fun.

I just got back in. Flew the foamie twice. The mosquitoes ran me in.

Well my buddy and I went flying today and we had a great time, I put 3 flights on my C/W Cub and had no issues. I put the maiden on my buddies Top Flite Contender that he build and he did an excellent job with very little trim needed, the plane tracks like it is on rails. We also flew hi 4*60 that had been rebuilt. Tomorrow we hope to get more flying in and get some other planes in the air as well. All the batteries are charging.
Later!!

Sounds like a great time was had by all.

I worked my tail off on the Waco cowl today but the effort was well worth it.

1st photo: This is the drawing that I made on the computer.
2nd photo: I placed a sheet of frisket film under the drawing and cut it out.
3rd photo: Individual frisket masks. Repeated steps 1, 2, and 3.
4th photo: This is the frisket film that I used. Available at any good art supply.
5th photo: Back side of the cowl with the Bob Dively dummy engine.
6th photo: Front side of cowl. I didn't go to a lot of extra detail on the engine. Just enough to get by.
7th photo: Painted cowl bumps. After painting and pen striping I ran a 1/4" stripe of masking tape around each cowl bump and brushed on a coat of Polycrylic to keep the pen stripe from coming loose. As I would paint a bump I would pull the tape off.

Ken that cowling looks great, I will drop mine in the mail I want it back with Blue trim
Looks like the frisket did the trick for you, can I beg you for the file you made for the mask? I can't draw (*&% on the computer. Also you may be able to print right on the frisket paper(never tried it).
The weather here has been unbearably hot and we will be flying for a few hour this morning then again late afternoon and evening. Makes me really wish I had my Waco finished
Later!!
Anthony

Thanks for the complements guys.

Anthony, I have e-mailed you the pattern and Scott I need for you to PM me your e-mail address.

This pattern was made for my cowl and yours will probably be a little different. If you will give me the dimensions of your cowl bumps I can make the changes in the pattern. Anthony, as I recall, your plane has an extra blue stripe outlining the shape. This makes it a little more complicated. Anyway I will try to make what you want.

That flimsy frisket is a little tough to get put down exactly like you want but it is easy to peal up and re-stick. I used the low tack version. After I put it down I used a sharp #11 blade to trim the nose of the frisket exactly like I wanted it. After masking the rest of the cowl I sprayed a couple of coats of white Krylon on the exposed cowl bumps. This was to seal the frisket before the red was sprayed. This pretty well took care of the bleeding under the edges of the frisket. There were several small rough spots around the edges but the pen stripping took care of it.

I was amazed at how much pen stripping I used on the fuselage and cowl. The roll that I bought was 40' long. It had two 1/16" stripes which I split apart to make 80' of material. I used all but 1' with not more than 5' of waste.
