foam tires will make it grip better, also softer suspension springs should help the handling out but its a great car, i love mine.

hi i have the FW-05T + , THIS is my first car in the nitro world and i was wondering if the FW-05T have any hop up parts to make it run faster/smoother/ grip better. and if its compatible w/ the 05RR? or the 05R?

Some parts are, some aren't - especially the front shock mount, the RR and T are different. There are loads of things you can do that don't cost a lot of money to improve performance.

1. Change the front diff oil to a heavier one, make the front diff really stiff.
2. If you use rubber tires, change the shock oil to 250, the standard is 500 and is only good for the smoothest of circuits (unless you use sponge, then keep it at 500)
3. Ride height! Depends if your bashing or at a smooth track. 5mm (but make front slightly lower) for a smooth track, and at least 7mm, probably more, for bashing.
4. Make sure the engine is tuned properly, most advice that comes from the engine manufacturer about carburettor settings is garbage.
Here is a good guide by HPI on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5mzva_hu6Q&mode=related&search=
REMEMBER - just because you tuned it and it worked the other day, the correct tuning may change a lot due to the weather conditions.
5. Replace the silicon fuel tubing with a thicker type - you will gain 10 -15 % more power over the original tubing

Although slightly dated now, the FW05 is a very competitive package out the box. The RR is better but only marginally. The FW05 is a better car on rubber compared the the V1, but the V1 is better on sponge.

I'm not very serious at all about on-roading.. But for just taking an RTR car out every now and then that'll do 50mph with little to no hassle or maintenance, this really has been a great car. I totally don't take care of it, but it seems to just keep going. And going, and going.....

o.s .18 CV-R will give u more than enough power, and if u ever want to race, u can run in the outlaw class. A lot of people like it.

Thanx.. Just found the OS 18 CV-RX - which I guess is the right one, just with a pullstart, which I would need...

The one I found here in Germany though has a grey head, not the typical OS blue like on towerhobbies.com ....

Is this the right one?:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGGP6&P=7

It says ideal for offroad and single-speed...

??

I'm more familiar with the bigger engines for my MT's, but isn't 28,000 RPM's for a 1/10 2-speed on-roader a bit low?? The stock GXR-15 engine has frankly been a DREAM to work with - set and forget, starts right up despite NO maintenance or TLC, never a broken pullstart, etc.. And the car stock is pretty d.amn fast.... Will this OS with 28,000 RPM make it faster??

oh, the kyosho has a slide carb? oh, sorry, i was thinking of the rs4, its when the carb rotates to get more fuel into it, just get the pullstart slide carb engine.

Agree the GXR motor is great and underrated for an rtr car. Personally I would suggest if you are moving away from that motor as to look at going to a bump start motor as I dont think you will find a pullstart system better and more reliable then the stock GXR motor. Also not sure if you are aware but the crankshaft is slightly larger then other motors so if you want to reuse your stock clutch you will need some special parts from Kyosho. New flywheel and also the long hex nut that screws onto your crankshaft against your flywheel. Stock is larger thread diameter and wont fit on an aftermarket engine.

Another option for a motor to look at is the OS TG .12 suprisingly good and quick little motor as well. Is quicker then the GXR which surprised me.
