Hey, Flyin'hawaiian, while I agree that there are some slight blemishes on this plane, we would all stop complaining afrter seeing it next to the QQ 102" Yak!!! I needed to go to the Yak route for weight reasons, but if I were at sea level, I'd gladly sacrifice 1.5-2 pounds to have the quality of this ARF compared to that one!! As it is, the poor beveling quality of the QQ has me pulling hairs right now

My father received his on Thursday afternoon and brought it to my shop. We have been working on it some over the past couple of days and here is where we are at now. Should be able to fly Monday or Tuesday. The only things left to do is dial in the radio and mount the cowl.

Shawn

I opened up the boxes this morning and boy what a plane!! The wings do not have blemish one on them. I lifted the fuse up a bit and it looked okay too but I didn't want to completely remove it from the box just yet due to room issues. That cowl is WIDE!!

I added two white stripes ( they are exactly 20 cm wide BTW) to the bottom of each wing panel to help me see it against a blue sky. Also, I'm going to have to open up the wing servo bays a bit so that the 8611s will fit but I've had to do that before on other ARFs. I think that I will glue a 3/16" x 1/2' pieces of bass wood under each end of the servo hold down so the screws have something more to bit and hold on to.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Bobby

The electronics are as follows,

1 Smart fly power Expander
2 Fromeco 4800 Li-ion batteries for servos
1 Fromeco 2400 Li-ion for ignition
3 Fromeco regulators
3 JR charge switches
2 Matchboxes for the ailerons.

Just a couple of notes.

First off this is one awesome ARF. The covering out of the box had zero wrinkles and the workmanship is better than what most can do themselves. The price can't be beat especially considering that one would expect to spend a good 150.00 on the hardware that comes with this airplane. The fit of all the componets were right on the money in most cases. The aileron servo cutouts had to be opened up just a tad to get the 8611s in place and I had to fabricate switch mounts. Other than those two minor items the airplane is " bolt together". The engine mounting was a peice of cake because of the supplied template. With the DA 100 mount the rudder servos in the tail for CG. when doing this the rudder hardpoints are in the right place so the pushrods are level using 1.25 servo arm. This may seem a minor point but very few ARFs get the servo/pushrod geometry right. The overall weight of 26 to 27 pounds may seem on the high side but after seeing the airplane it is no longer a concern. The fuse is fat and is going to produce some lift, the wings are very light and that's what is important, the aileron size looks to be ideal. Those two things are going to make rolling manuvers stop instantly. I am really looking forward to flying this one. One thing I have to commend Aeroworks the most is that this kit was ordered through TBM on Monday, was delivered on Thursday and will fly one week from order date...........Incredible

Dennis...

If the Aileron and elevator servo cutouts are re-sized to what the
rudder cutouts are, the the 8611s will slip right in without any modification.
Tho I am not complaining, having to enlargen servo cutouts does take
away from the quick build aspect of these fine ARFs.
As for the comments made by my Son, RCBlimppro, I heartily agree
with his assessment so far. He'll get to fly it... when ole Dad has completed
the maiden flight...LOL.
For us, it's been a Father-Son hobby, off and on, since 1979, when Shawn
learned to fly and we raced Quickies as a team. There's two grandsons who
are just beginning with a park flyer, and I am looking forward to their joining
in all the way in the flying.

Gerald.

Hi all. I also had to shave the servo bays a touch to get the Hitecs to slide in easily. No big deal ,30 seconds eachwith a sharp Xacto. Do I absolutly need to add the engine baffle? Also do I need to cut the bottom of the cowl out to get more exit areafor engine heat, somthing alike 3-1 ratio? The assembly CD says and shows 5 spacers behind the engine. I did so and have about 5/8" from spinner to cowl. I might remove 1 spacer. This is truly an incredible piece of work. Rocco and the rest of the developement team at Aeroworks are to be commended on their outstanding results. I can't wait to show up out at Chatfield with this baby! ( If I can get it out of my basement, up the stairs, out the back door, and into the van..................by myself. Tom

Yes you need to open up the cowl for cooling on the bottom. As for the spacers you only need for with the DA we moved the engine box out a quarter inch from the one we did the manuel on to the production and then we forgot to change it we will have an adendum out soon. Sorry about the servo rails I know it only took 30 secounds of your time but it is still something we will look into fixing.

I'm on my way out to fly mine now I will post with pics and tell you all how it went when I get home.
